Day 7 candle today. 10/10 shipped eggs started developing, but thinking maybe two are duds.... 2/10 dead by day 7 for shipped sure isn't bad tho.

There is a pretty good storm going on here the past couple days. Unfortunately, the temperature has been high enough during the day that the snow has been melting, and we have been getting rain. When I went to collect eggs, two of the bottom nest boxes were soaked! It has me concerned now because the third nest box in the row is where my hen is brooding! I didn't stick my hand in to test the bedding, but I think that one remained dry. I hole there is a break in the wind tomorrow, because that is egg candling day for me, and frigid winds will not help. Neither does the frozen pond our property has become. We put a piece of board over the door to the bottom row, and replaced bedding. I sure hope the eggs are okay!
I am so sorry about all those weather problems. It does complicate things, doesn't it? Even the water inside the barn was frozen this morning. Winter hasn't even started, and I am so ready for it to be done.

I got 3 dozen quail eggs on the way, not for hatching though, but they sent some duck eggs as a gift that I might try to hatch if they are fertile... if I can get an incubator put together. The eggs are not "shipped" but are coming from southern Utah from my cousin's farm. He also said if I want fertile quail eggs, he will put a few males in with the females and bring me some on his next delivery, Dec. 30th. Yep, I may just have to build an incubator!

Looks like these eggs are not going to be candled today, or the next couple days. It is just too cold. It should be in the high 20s on Tuesday, hopefully we can do it then.
