December hatch-along

I quickly / carefully candled my shipped Cochin/Frizzle eggs prior to setting them.

Most of them are porous, and they all have loose/detached air cells. Some cells are a nice size, while others are already looking big.

I am going to keep high hopes and low expectations for this hatch. Frou-Frou and Noelle are the best looking eggs.

Happy hatching, all!

 Wow!! Those are emu eggs? The colour is amazing!

Yes they are a really beautiful emerald green. The incubator is holding pretty steady at 96.6-96.8 f. I'm going to let that go. Incubation temp for emus is 97.5 but I've read they can be incubated at lower temps. As low as 95 degrees fahrenheit and that actually results in stronger chicks. It just takes a little longer for them to hatch.

This is fascinating! It's great that you have done your research. Please keep us posted on these beautiful eggs. I imagine it is pretty well impossible to candle them, yes?
