December hatch-along

We hatched bcm legbars some favellies and some missed mutts but I Googled vent sexing and learned a lot about it but this was my first time and I am so hoping I am right however I am confident about it

I'll start my research then. Should the hatch be a success, I really would like to know how many eill grow up to be layers.

On day 4 I can see some life in a few of the eggs! Very pleased! Really wanted a closer look and took them out of the incubator. I know I should leave them alone!

@cree57i Awwww! I have to admit, I'm a bit jealous of your gorgeous little "Leggies" (as my daughter calls them.) We're still waiting for the two girls we got from you to start back laying. Can't wait to see my own little isabel/brown Leggies in the brooder room.

I think my hens are crazy. I have another one with a sudden desire to be a mother... in freezing temperatures! I have mixed feelings about this. I think it is just too cold, but at the same time, I do not want to deny her. And so, I have eggs all ready to go.

Im biting at the chomps to candle and Im only on day 4 too so dont feel bad lol

I weighed my emu eggs today (day 4) to make sure I wasn't losing too much weight.
I'm incubating at a slightly lower temps of 96.5 for a 60 day hatch versus 97.5 for a 56 day hatch. I've read this can result in stronger chicks.
I want the eggs to lose 15% of their total weight at the end of that 60 days.
I started out with no added water in the incubator and the humidity was around 20%. Today the eggs were 2g lighter than they should have been. I added a small dish of water. This raised the humidity to 28% so we'll see if my next weigh in is better.

I have the same situation going on here. Ana, my silver penciled rock has been broody for about 2 weeks now. She's quite stubbornly sitting on a ceramic egg lol. I doubt I could break her if I tried. She's not much older than a year but this is her third time this year! She's really a great mom so I may have to just give in and give her something to mother.

Do I have reason to be concerned or should I just calm down? No chicks out yet, but I have three eggs that have been rocking for almost 24 hr. This is only my second hatch, and my first coturnix hatch.

EDIT: Never mind worried for nothing. One of the eggs in question has its little head all the way out, one I can see zipping marks. I need to relax, haha.

My last hatch I had to assist one of the babies after ~36 hr with no progress. The chick was stuck with an unabsorbed yolk upsidedown. Sadly, it passed away from infection a day later. :( Now I am prepared with clorhexidine and knowledge should it happen again.
