December hatch-along

Today's Hatch Total:

Out of 71 eggs on lockdown 66 hatched, 3 still peeping and pipping the remaining 2 one appears dead and the last one still alive but hasn't pipped. Going to give them the whole day tomorrow to tally final total hatched.

Out of 39 eggs due for next Sat the 24th, 35 eggs remain.

Out of 41 eggs set last Sat (7th day today) another 35 eggs remain.

I ended up with 22 hatching of the 25 set. Two ended up being way under developed and one died mid zip. Never had that happen before (expiring mid-zip). I'm wondering if it had something to do with the power outage we had a couple weeks ago during that aweful storm? I'm not overly disappointed though and am tee totally tickled with these little ones. They're little balls of fluff and spunk. Lol!

Congratulations on the ones that made it! Sorry about the other three though.

Total hatched 69 of 71 that went to lockdown that were due yesterday the 17th. Kept 40 and gave 29 to my dad. This are Dark Cornish/White and Barred Rocks and Buff Orhington/Madisons. Removed my Buff male and left the Cornish with all my females rocks and Madisons 3 weeks ago and going to be setting more eggs without my Buff. Just set 38 eggs today of my flock with only Cornish males. How long could it take for the fertility of the Buff to clear out?

Congratulations! I am not an expert on breeding, but was considering selecting my chickens to breed. I asked around on this site and was told it takes about 3 weeks to clear the fertility. I decided to just select some eggs and see what happens knowing my RIRs do most of the mating. Maybe later on I will do a breeding group with my Olive Egger roo or a Salmon Faverolles roo. I was just too excited to wait 3 weeks.

I have zero electrical experience. I watched a Youtube video from Homesteading in SC. I followed instructions pretty closely, but only added 1 light bulb since my cooler was small. It cost about $35 to build, but could be much cheaper depending on what you have on hand. The foam cooler was under $3. If you had a bigger cooler, you could add more lights for heat and a whole lot more eggs. :)

We need..step by step instructions..or do you already have it on another thread..if so...let me know where! Nice hatch, Congratulations!

I went through my pictures (I have thousands because I document everything) and was surprised that I had no pictures of my newest incubator! So, I got a good picture of her today. :-D

We need step by step for this incubator too!

That's so cool. I am thinking of hatching ducks next. I've never owned ducks so I am still researching breeds.

Anyone else want to say which is their favorite? I haven't owned them, but I've hatched them because after looking around, loved, loved the Welsh Harlequin! Even the girls have that pretty blue in their wings.
