December hatch along

Pics
DSCN3698.JPG DSCN3699.JPG Locked down and ready to go. Not much to look at now. Normally I have mini cages around the eggs but every variety of chick is going to look different so no need to keep them separated for identity purposes.

I have eggs due around the 23rd. This is my first time. I posted in another thread too.

Set 30 eggs in our home made incubator, had an accident where we lost 4 the first day. Candled on day 7, and separated into “no, yes, maybe” on day 10 we candled again. lost 1 yes, 2 maybes and only 1 no. Had a temp spike last night (early day 12) so I opened the bator and candled them, all look good.

We have 15 yes and 4 maybe. Ever since the spike we have been hanging out at 98,99 degrees, and honestly haven’t tried to rectify it yet.

I’m reallt excited to see what we get, as 7 are CCLB mixes (daddy cclb, and multiple moms from my neighbor) and the others are EE mixes from my birds. I’m hoping I have at least a 50% hatch rate from these eggs. We shall keep watching!

Of the two eggs the Seramas were sitting on, one hatched on Monday, Dec 10th and as of Thursday morning the other egg still looked like this when candled. I figure it is a lost cause. Note: Monday was day 22 and Thursday was day 25.

I would like to open the egg to see what it looks like. Maybe I can get a clue as to what went wrong. Not that I would know what to look for. I'll try to get pix. I'm assuming it would be best to open the air cell ide and go from there.

Pip Day! I was expecting Sunday but it comes Friday Night. View attachment 1616264
some have a few black scuffs on them but those black marks you can see shell cracking on a Dorking Egg.

It look's like the Dorking's lay light colored eggs, then. What breed are those bigger brown egg's from? Oh, and congrat's on the start of your hatch!

To the left in that photo are Production Red Eggs the father is a Black Copper Maran. Males (or one male) from that batch will be bred back to Production Red Hens in an attempt to get a Red Rooster that has a darker egg gene. Then use a Rooster from that next generation to make Red Sex Links with a darker egg. To the Right are Cuckoo Maran eggs, they are darker than they look in the picture because the lamp I use for pictures is shining directly on them. The father of those eggs is a Maran Black Sex Link (half BCM half Cuckoo maran) so the chicks will be 1/4 BCM 3/4 Cuckoo Marans. I am trying to darken the egg color of my Cuckoo Marans for when I make Black Sex Links. Bottom Right you can see Red Ranger eggs with a Silver Grey Dorking father. Its my current Meat Hybrid project where I already had one hatch in November (and is doing great) Also in the Incubator but not pictured are eggs from my Red Sex Link matings, Not sure if they are Delaware or Columbian Wyndotte eggs or a few of each. Only one hen in that flock is likely laying I believe (just started laying) The father is a Production Red. (sorry if I made a lot of mistakes, I went to sleep right at sundown and just woke up so I am groggy)
