December hatch along

Pics
I put up a post in my states thread and never got a response, I will start trying craigslist soon too.
You could try Facebook marketplace also I have found several egg listing for a dozen for $2 listed as eating or hatching but that’s a great price so maybe you could do that or create a Facebook group for your area and do it that way

Our 2 December 2nd chicks are doing well. They are eating and drinking and hangin with mom.

The 2 Serama sisters are still in the same box sitting on 3 eggs. One is iffy but the other 2 are pretty dark and are moving so should be any day.

Yesterday I candled checking for internal pips. None yet. Increased my humidity and closed up the incubator until hatch is complete.

Serama due today.

Everyone else due Saturday.

I'm going to join here for once :)

I have my Hovabator 1602n up and running with new thermometers, so I'm dialing in today. Will probably set a dozen or so either tomorrow or Saturday.
A friend is giving me two spent hens to cull and would like two pullet chicks to replace them.
This round will be my standard-bred Barred Rock rooster over half standard-bred/half hatchery type hens. Will be nice to see what improvements continue there. I wasn't really planning to breed them, but the eggs should be fertilized to some degree, so might as well throw them in for my friend.

it would be nice to have local egg banks. Eggs will not store long but maybe we can brain storm an idea. Idea #1 those who participate in an egg bank can make a tax deductible contribution of eggs to a homeless shelter where eggs are kept a week (or however long is reasonable) The eggs will be marked with the breed. After a week the eggs go to feed the homeless or poor families. This way a flow of eggs are coming in and when someone locally wants a specific breed of hatching egg there is a chance that breed is available locally... OK I lack the resource to pull that off but I contributed the thought.
