December hatch along

Christmas hatch incubator is on the fritz.

Temperature doesn’t want to hold steady. I think I may lose the eggs. We’ll find out in a few days when I candle them if the temperature spike killed the embryos.

What kind of incubator are you using

Friday I have to box in and wire up the bottom shelves as the brooders, the first batch is due the 20th! Was thinking I'd put down contact paper to protect the shelves.

Pretty happy with my hatch room though! I put a pan of water in front of the heater and gained a 10% rise in ambient humidity... was hoping for 20% more... need another pan!

Trying to work with this old drafty house.

Gotta remember to get hinges/hardware and power strips. Perhaps a humidifier.

After the hatch is done that heater will get turned off, it's only there to help the incubator out since that room gets down right frigid!

Because... what else do you do with tiny rooms you don't use?

Just set 3 Bielefelder eggs today, my first hatch Was hoping for more but the rain has made all my chickens act funky.

Temp of the incubator was reading 99.5 while the thermometer was reading 95. Turned it up and now the incubator is reading 100.7 and the thermometer is reading 99 so Worst case I toss them in a week and try again.

Temp of the incubator was reading 99.5 while the thermometer was reading 95. Turned it up and now the incubator is reading 100.7 and the thermometer is reading 99 so Worst case I toss them in a week and try again.

My internet has been acting crazy for a couple of days now, so I'm going to hurry up and just say that I had 3 chicks that hatched today.

100.7 is still ok they may hatch a little early but it’s not enough to kill them. Where is the placement of your thermometer and has it been calibrated

Time to Celebrate! WOOO HOOO! I haven't been celebrating enough hatches lately due to weather panics but tomorrow starts a warm spell and snow melt flooding lol. My hatch comes Sunday

100.7 is still ok they may hatch a little early but it’s not enough to kill them. Where is the placement of your thermometer and has it been calibrated

It's under the heater element, I had it turned around at first so it was reading low but it only went up a few degrees when I turned it around properly. I believe I calibrated it correctly, ice in cold water and it read 32 degrees. I'm not hugely worried if they hatch a little early, Bieles aren't excessively fragile as chicks. And like I said, worst case I try again in a week if none are developing.
