I thank my fuzzy is an Australorp.

I am so Excited... and Tortured. No pips yet from my 2 eggs. I set them on the 4th, so I guess today is day 20, I will be racing downstairs to check the incubator Christmas morning. They were moving good on my day 18 Candling right before lockdown and have stayed an even 99-100 and 65%.

C'mon, I have been REALLY good this year, please can I have these 2 little eggs hatch for Christmas?!?!?

I had 1 hatch yesterday and early this morning one was having trouble so I helped it but it didn't make it. Then a little while ago while I was gone a sizzle hatched and there is a silkie that's got a hole in the egg. That leaves one still to pip. I'm surprised any made it because the temps ran pretty high the last week. I'll post pics when they're all done.

I am relieved to say my hatching is done. I started with 11 eggs. The 3 by the two White Rock sisters didn't develop and were pulled before lockdown. The 2 eggs from the Red Star hens didn't hatch. When I opened them today, one was simply a yolk, the other was a dead yellow chick. That chick was fully formed, but the yolk sac had failed to absorb.

I started yesterday in a state of worry because nobody had pipped or moved. I opened an egg. Bad move. It died. If I had left it alone, most likely it would be alive. The other five blue eggs hatched. I've got five little fuzzy butts that are 3/4 Ameracuana and 1/4 Dominique. I think Early Bird (second to pip, but first to hatch) is a roo, based soley upon his bossy behavior. Early Bird is one of the "wild pattern" or "chipmunk striped" chicks. There are two blues and one black with white wing tips. I think everyone has white bellies. Several have black feet with pink toes. Very cute contrast. We'll see if those change later. Oh, the 5th chickie is a darker chipmunk. It's like Early Bird is a blonde and this one is a brunette or redhead... It's still a little damp looking.

I took the water bottle away when I went to bed. They were trying to give each oher baths or drown one another. Hard to tell at this stage with all the stumbling around. I did leave an ice cream lid with wet food. Early Bird is eating and drinking. The others are trying to sleep in the food. This was one of those "walk away before they drive you insane" moments.

I wish one of my Silkies had been female. Instead they both crow and mate the June Girls.

But my five Christmas presents will be spoiled rotten before the children head back to school. I expect to find/hear chicks in pockets or down blouses in the near future. The girls like to cuddle a chicken while watching television. Early today they washed two roosters (house chicken and one inside for treatment). The boys liked the blow dryer and the spot lights after the shampooing, lol.

It's been a full couple of days. Good night, all. Merry Christmas!!!

Hope everyone had a Great Holiday!

Hatch Update...9 out of 11 last week, 7 out of 9 Christmas Eve (Day)! Have 2 more hatches going, one for New year's and one a week later. Most of my girls are now broody, so no more hatching for a few weeks!

From what I can see, I have several blues and one definite chocolate, plus a couple blacks...We'll see what they look like in a few weeks! I'm still saying nightly Pullet Prayers!
