My one early pip has hatched completely. It is a Mille Fleur Cochin bantam.
The zip came about 18 hours after the first pip.
The membrane is broken and the shell is cracked almost half around.
The zip and pushing out of the shell process took only 1.5 hours, for this chick.
Cute pic cos he's got half of his shell on his head, like an Asian hat.
Good flip over
And with one good push, the baby's out!! YAY, it was a clean hatch too, notice there is barely any blood in the shell. Baby looks good.
My first ever little Mille Fleur Cochin bantam. Notice the pronounced comb on the newborn. Might be a male this one... I'm so proud of my baby. Just after an hour, he has learnt to balance on his feet in a squat position. In no time, this little fella will be running.
ok, 1 down, 20 more to go. I've got 3 more pips happening now.
I'll be keeping vigil tonight again, for as long as my eyes can stay open, and I'll have the 2 furboys to keep me company. They are just are eager to meet the newcomers as I am.

Sheilawagner those are awesome pics and congrats...LOVE your dogs...here are mine wet and then I just managed to quickly take these others after waking them up with the light (not to mention the flash..it's a wonder the flash didn't kill them!)
December 22nd was hatch day --I had my first chick in this batch to hatch early am on the 23rd .. then 7 more popped quickly yesterday morning.. no more activity until late afternoon yesterday when a poor doomed chick
and another healthy one hatched....no more until about an hour ago and now I see one pip and two more "cracks"... it ISN'T true that a watched egg never hatches.. just that it seems to take FOREVER!..
I love all of the great incubator photos.. I just have two small windows in my Hovabator and everyone is camera shy..
I have early birds 3 out of 7 hatched and the others are pipped so I doubt that any will wait for Christmas....I'll get pictures when I put them in the brooder
