December incubating

Well its the next day and as we all do have that tickly feeling in the chest and tummy and legs of excitment as babies make their arrivals.
i have one BBS Orp splash baby hatched out (My wish!!) and 2 more star cracks as we speak.
Looking for a blue now.
I have a big black fantastic part English Orp roo from the last bunch from this breeder 5 months ago. Going for the blues and splashes
WHHOO the Excitment builds!! I can hardly contain myself! ....and its my 11th hatch ! Think id be over it by now ...but no never ends for anyone. Why its sooo addicting i guesd like cocaine a real HIGH.
Well thats a distrubing thought . HAHA

Ok just one? Should I lay it on the bottom of the bator or in the bowl?
I gues im too late to add this for you .... are they hatched? .
Do you have glass beads or rocks in the water dishes? Thye say The babies tend to want to go into water and drowned when very new.
You might want to add something in them even a paper towel or rag so there is moisture.. but not water.
They can climb pretty well too for new But .the pottery pieces might work well if not too big . GOOD LUCK!

HI.
I set a my first ever hatch on Dec. 20th....day 21 will be January 9th. I have 31 (out of 44) still developing on day 11...Hoping to get about 20 hatched out successfully. I have only used broody hens for hatches previously. I am using a clear top all thick plastic type (like Brinsea) european model incubator with fan that holds up to 60 chicken eggs (manually turned). I have F1 and F2 olive eggers, wheaten/blue wheaten ameraucanas, 1 white ameraucana and some easter eggers too. It is so cool to watch them growing with each day's candling. I have an all young hen flock of 7 currently: cream legbars, birchen marans, easter egger, australorp, coronation sussex and a blue laced red wyandotte plus 2 more young show quality barred rock hens on the way from Nebraska in late January. Definitely a MIXED flock. I ordered a dozen fertile silkies in paint, splash and porcelain colors for setting mid January. Good luck to us!!

READY, SET AND GO PHOTO!!!

So we are on day 21 and we started them probably about 1030 at night (it just happened to be this time when they were room temperature) so we have about 10 hours til the end of day 21 and haven't seen or heard to much if anything at all. Not sure if any are going to hatch at this point

we think there may be a spot on one of the eggs that wasn't there last night when we checked but its very small so its hard to tell if it is anything or just our eyes playing tricks on us. It's kinda discouraging we were hoping we would have seen something by now.

Did you count that day 21 STARTS at 10 pm ? Mine i thought wre supposed to hatch Dec 29 all day nothing but rememebred i set at 10;30 pm so my day 21 STARTED at 10;30 pm Dec 29. thur 10 pm DEc 30 NOT morning of DEc 29.
Dont be discouraged yet.You can go in one minute and see nothing and 5 minutes later there is a star crack...Littie one just a bump on the egg. Try look at it from an angle with a flash light . See if it is a higher lump than the rest of the eggs smooth surface.
After A crack then its often hours like 6-12 until they actually zip and come out Can be later too. Some can be fast though

I had on hatch 8 pm end of day 20. DEc 29... Then star crack and a pip in another next day day 21 Dec 30 . Pip after hours and hours turned slightly bigger pip a hole actually But star crack stayed the exact same.
This morning star crack came leaping out fast about 6 am ...and Pip guy was still in there .I thought dead no peep no movement it had been pipped for 16-20 hours...Picked it up as the first hatchling got bored and was picking at the pip hole.
It was alive! I had to assist it and it had gotten glued to the shell and membrane on its wing so would never have gotten out but .it kept falling on its back once out...I cleaned it twice now ( it was also sticky from being pipped so long ) and couldnt keep balance due to the wing still glued down even after i cleaned once .THINK hes ok now too too!cleaned again and added som vasiline on it. to keep it moist
So dont get upset yet... things could work out fine!
(stuck wing guy a few minutes ago)See guck still there?

Other 2 chicklets Black and i guess its splash
