okay thanks for making me feel a little better! This is our first time and we are really hoping for just one! we would be perfectly happy with just one lol ill be sure to keep updating on here. And yes we did start day 21 at 1030 so hopefully something will start soon.

Did you count that day 21 STARTS at 10 pm ? Mine i thought wre supposed to hatch Dec 29 all day nothing but rememebred i set at 10;30 pm so my day 21 STARTED at 10;30 pm Dec 29. thur 10 pm DEc 30 NOT morning of DEc 29.
Dont be discouraged yet.You can go in one minute and see nothing and 5 minutes later there is a star crack...Littie one just a bump on the egg. Try look at it from an angle with a flash light . See if it is a higher lump than the rest of the eggs smooth surface.
After A crack then its often hours like 6-12 until they actually zip and come out Can be later too.Some can be fast though

I had on hatch 8 pm end of day 20. DEc 29... Then star crack and a pip in another next day day 21 Dec 30 . Pip after hours and hours turned slightly bigger pip a hole actually But star crack stayed the exact same.
This morning star crack came leaping out fast about 6 am ...and Pip guy was still in there .I thought dead no peep no movement it had been pipped for 16-20 hours...Picked it up as the first hatchling got bored and was picking at the pip hole.
It was alive! I had to assist it and it had gotten glued to the shell and membrane on its wing so would never have gotten out but .it kept falling on its back once out...I cleaned it twice now ( it was also sticky from being pipped so long ) and couldnt keep balance due to the wing still glued down even after i cleaned once .THINK hes ok now too too!cleaned again and added som vasiline on it. to keep it moist
So dont get upset yet... things could work out fine!

What should the humidity be at for the first 24 hrs of the eggs hatching?

I cant wait. Mine go into lockdown fri. Cute chicks, makes me even more anxious. I hope I get the humidity right. Any suggestions everyone?

What should the humidity be at for the first 24 hrs of the eggs hatching?

Last 4 days of your hatch should be between 65-75 Too low and they will get stuck in the egg."Shrink wrapped" by the drying membrane or did you mean first day of the whole hatch.?
Day 1-18 should be between 35-45 altough some ppl go lower too but that is a genrally good humidity for the first 18 days.

Its hard to pinpoint someone else humidity requirements as every home humidity is different but i wouldnt have it below 65 if you can help
.I Add 2 soaking wet wash rags or terry cloth rags besides whatever else you have now for humidity spread out as much as you can under the hole you should have added into your bator to put your straw in to add water with a syringe or turkey bastor during lockdown or if no hole place one rag under an open vent hole so you dont have to open the bator to add water do it thru the vent hole . Need the humidity up so they dont shrink wrap wihich is your main concern at hatch
Temp isnt such a big concern as it was once yu are at day21

.It might go up some once one or 2 hatch but its sort of hard sometimes to get it and keep it up until then.Lots of ppl have that problem and i do too .
.Adding adding water to keep it 65-70 which is what i keep mine at but is worth it to see the little chicklets hatch well
Oh and when you see a crack in the egg day 20-22...dont freak if it takes hours for it to make that crack bigger and come all the way out.That is how they do it often.little crack and then 12 hours later they zip out .CAN be in an just hour too but not unusual to take a long time to finally zip.Dont want to open the bator if anyhave zipped as thats is when they can get shrinkwrapped easily

AND... you WANT to help them out .....but that can kill them if its too early and it isnt to a dangerous point for them which you can ask about later if it would happen
JUst tie your hands together or eat popcorn and watch ...let nature take its course. .

i meant like the first 24 hours after the chicks come out.. but this was good information anyways because I think our humidity was a little too high during the first 18 days. None of our eggs ended up hatching

but for our first time we weren't expecting too much but it is still a disapointment. But we are planning on trying again and hopefully everything will go better this time now that we have done it once but we will definitely use these humidity %'s to help us with our next batch hopefully starting on Saturday!

novick, that looks like the incubator i have... how do u control the amount of water and humidity in yours? and did the temp button correspond to the temperature that was written i.e. we finally moved the temp knob to 38+ cent. since the 37 was actually about 34 degrees// we should ahve calibrated prior to setting the eggs, and then we had RH very high for most of the time...

any suggestions? our incubator also was something called: atuomatic thermostat incubator, no brand name really, just i think also european but it came with no instruction booklet ... at the bottom are two wells, how did u much did u fill them?
