Decided on a classroom pet!

Quote:
I agree with the blaming the class pet for illness thing. My son's school required all parents to sign a paper explaining the pet and asking if there were any issues with the pet that was chosen. The pet was a kitten which with so many people allergic to cats I thought the choice was not that great. I suppose if everyone agreed and understood the critter up front it was lessen the chances of anyone throwing a fit. In my son's case the kitten was wonderful and the kids all loved the little thing very much.

I still say hatching chicks or raising up some day old chicks would be a great learning tool for kids that age. There is so many different lessons that could be taught about them. Whatever the teacher decides on I would hope that she chooses something that is hardy and not easily stressed.

We have guinea pigs but we can't seem to get them to be freindly, they run and hide in there hutch when they hear us coming and if i try and pick one up it scratches and wingles so much I think I'm going to hurt them, when I do hold them I put them in a beany so they feel comfortable. We've had them about 7 months now and they seem to get more afraid of us as toime goes on instead of getting more friendly. How did you get your piggys so friendly?
here is a pic of them in there beanies. I think they are so cute, but they are smelly little things.

I was gonna say a lizard also. Specifically a Gecko. They are reasonably priced...and very EASY to care for...and mine which I have had for 7 years dont smell EVER. They are cheap to feed also. They eat crickets.

Have you thought about the obese Zucker rat?

I worked with these and honestly they are the most adorable, sweet-tempered, good-smelling rats I have ever seen. They are larger than a softball and feel like beanbags! They love having their stomachs touching and are just adorable.

You can buy them, I just need to find out where!

They are the cutest rats I have ever seen! I grew up raising hooded rats, I had about 24 of them. I loved them so much. I miss having rats

I haven't heard back as to what she would like to have, but she really likes all the suggestions I am sending her!

Does she like snakes? They are really easy to care for and they come in a variety of patterns and colors.

I to say tell her to get Rats, we have 2 and we are getting a third one today. We have females as males have well big ya know, and I knew the girls would ask to many questions about that appendage lol AND usually females dont have as much smell problems, although the males are usually calmer! lol Here is a pic of mine yesterday fishing for frozen peas!
