Decrowed rooster

I just read almost everyone of your post and something about this just doesn't make sense. Dec 14th you didn't even know the sex was. Five days later you asked this...

Wait I’ve also read about de crow surgery, what is it exactly?
6 days later you said this...
BlueGold said:
Oh I’m in Castro valley, Ca and yes I called the hospital in Oakland and they said only $150 for the surgery
BlueGold said:
Yes I am planning on giving my rooster the surgery when he is old enough, so in 2 months from now
Another 6 days later you said this...
BlueGold said:
My rooster just turned 4 months old yesterday is it too late to do the decrow surgery. Or is it still a good time?
Then today this indicating that's who performed the surgery.

Also my Friend is a retired vet.
BlueGold said:
Yes it is but the thing is our chickens got too loud and so were are gonna sell them all and maybe get quails, the chickens weren’t this loud till last week.
So you had 1 rooster, took his ability to make sound in an attempt to get it past your neighbors, and now are getting rid of all the chickens?
Not even 6 months ago you had 24 chickens. What happened?

I had 24 chickens but now I have 13 left.

$300 for a rooster in general is extremely high, on top of it he's not a rare breed, and came from a hatchery. Maybe in missing something but he just seems like an overpriced, under appreciated cockerel who will likely not sell and either get the chopping block or have to reside where he is not wanted. He's not even worth eating now, cost to darn much. I doubt if Gordon Ramsay could get away with charging $300 for a bird.

I thought he is an Easter Egger too and when I bought him it said Easter Egger buy when I brought him to the vet he said it was an a Ameracuana. I think the vet might be wrong.

Vets normally don't know much about chickens let alone breeds. Heck there's plenty of farmers who don't know much about chicken breeds. He's an EE.

I was interested cause I've considered a decrowed rooster but he'd have to be purebred to come anywhere near justifying the price for me.

Good luck!

Even a great SOP rooster whether he can crow or not is rarely going to bring $300. An EE just happens to be a mutt that lays colored eggs. I have 30-40 White Legbar roosters I would gladly sell for 5 bucks apiece, but know I will be sending them to freezer camp.. i

I know $30 is not a lot of profit. But in the hobby chicken world profit does not occur very often.

I wish you luck, however, I think you should psychologically prepare yourself for losing $290 bucks or more on this one.
