Yep. I maintain deep litter in both the coop and the run. I open the coop and run doors for them daily, regardless of weather. They choose whether to go out or stay in, and they usually choose out simply because they love the freedom of ranging. And I don't ever change it all out to the ground....I always leave a layer as "starter", sort of like sourdough. I don't turn my litter over completely, either....I just give it a flip to get the poopy layer underneath the cleaner. Every few days I pull off the top layer under the roosts, where it gets really dirty, toss it into the cleaner area and give it a flip, then either move cleaner litter under the roosts or put in new bag of dried leaves that I save from raking the yard - or pinching from the neighbors, with their permission, of course. It all takes longer to type than it does to do!Have you ever added your coop litter to the run after it has been used?
