Deer Eatin Chickens?

lol... I was suggesting the people eat the pies! Not the chickens

Recently got back a processed deer my youngest son and I shot 3 weeks ago. My family only likes (loves) when I make deer jerky and possibly the tenderloin cuts. The processor grinds up the leftovers after those 2 cuts and makes ground venison for burgers, chili, etc. Here is the problem - my family doesn't care much for the ground up venison. So, my question is this - do you think chickens would/could/should eat cooked ground up venison so it doesn't go to waste in our freezer? Let me know if you have ever heard of chickens eating deer meat and what were the outcomes. Thanks so much!!!

Are you sure that there is no one locally that would want it? Venison is a wonderful, lean and healthy meat as I'm sure you know, and if you were anywhere near me I'd take it off your hands with heartfelt gratitude, and repay you however I could! Some families struggle to purchase meat, and it sure wouldn't be as healthy as venison..

But I digress! If you want to feed it to your chickens you sure can. It's a healthy protein source for them as long as you feed it sparingly-- like a treat, only some each day. It just shouldn't make up more than 30% of their daily diet, is all I am saying. Lean meats are a great food for them in moderation. You can feed it raw as long as it's still fresh and hasn't spoiled or turned at all-- or if you prefer to cook it you can.

When we have deer season the chickens get the raw deer meat I chunk it up in small peices and the go nuts I give them some of the liver and heart everything is cut small so they don't choak.

My dogs also eat the deer smal parts, I have never had no problem from them eating the raw deer meat.

But be ware once they know when you have it they will not shut up till they get some. My one chiken saw a deer come in and she screamed till she got some.

No, it's a terrible idea, you need to send all that leftover venison to me!

Btw, I too thought the deer were eating your chickens too, was waiting to read that you butchered the deer and found feathers inside!

oh, well the way you worded your title makes it sound like a live deer is making your chickens go missing when you not looking...

but a chicken bird does eat its own chicken meat. and chicken egg and the shell even. so they would eat deer meat too. they eat bugs like roaches too, their fav, and grubs, i got vids of that now.
is the one of human food (including meat)

currently uploading the grub vid...... 1min remaining.... 95%.....

For your families taste buds try adding sausage with the ground deer meat. Our 10 yr old prefers that in spaghetti over plain hamburger. Marinades work really good also. My favorite way to eat it is to cut it in small chunks, fry it in hot oil, scoop it out into a bowl full of seasonings mix it and eat. YUM!
