deer hunting

You can report him to your local game warden. Here game wardens are awesome. They take their jobs very seriously and they do an awesome job IMO. They will put you under the jail here for illegal hunting and not following safe practices.

My DH bow hunts...he has a hand made bow and arrows and the arrows made from old indian arrowheads. It won't shoot as far as his good bow that he bought at the hunting show but he has killed 6 deer with it over the years.

Is anyone gonna let us post pics of our deer yet??????

DH and BIL are boring, they sit in stands all day, I was raised in the mountains of MT, WY, and CO. You stalk out there, our you go as deep into the timber as you can and then park next to a fallen log and take in nature hwile waiting. The third (and my least favorite) method we use is "pushing timber" where we post 2 ppl on one end of the timber and the rest fan out and walk thru to flush the gae out. I dont like this because the only time I've done it I was 8 mo pregnant and found bear sign.

Stand hunting is fine, but the stands DH uses are in our freakin cow pasture, like I havent seen THAT a million times already! Take me somewhere NEW if youre going to make me sitt all day and freeze my butt off!

We jerky EVERYTHING besides the heart and tenderloins. I have venison but use it for the economical value. The right marinade works wonders, or a bit of chili powder and table sugar in the burger completely cuts the deer flavor. But really I grew up in a house where #1, we didnt buy meant, and #2 deer and antelope were junk, strictly for jerky and sausage, Elk, Moose, and Caribou were meant for eating like beef. And thats the way I still see it.

hmm mine is a 55lb Hoyt and I have dropped deer within feet of the hit at 65 yds. A good broadhead and it will drop em. I target shoot with it accurately much further but there are usually not trees and brush between me and the target. hahaha

Here is my daughter 4 years ago holding my Hoyt (barely). LOL

The biggest thing with a bow unlike a rifle...you have to be more accurate with the bow to kill the deer. A rifle if you are off mark just a tad it will still drop the deer and not be as clean a kill. With a bow, a slight twist or even an exhale at the wrong moment and you have a wounded deer that you have to track and kill. The further the shot, the further the arrow will drop. It is challenging and moreso than rifle hunting to me. I have to be much closer to the deer that with a rifle. Try it...you'll be hooked.

LOL Adam and I need to come to your place! We both got our hunting licenses half way through the season last year and went hunting numerous times. One time we went hunting on a preserve more towards the mountains, Adam was the only one to see a deer. Adam heard rustling in the leaves behind him, turned around and there was a small doe 20ft from his back. He went to lift his rifle and the doe took off. No venison for us.

We've spotted a few deer tracks on the land next to us, it's due to be developed into a ton of houses. We're hoping to get a deer feeder and feed the deer onto our property. Adam and his family have lived here for years and have never actually seen a deer. *sigh*

You don't even have to have a deer feeder. For years I spread it wth a coffee can or by hand. Then a few years ago I found a Scott seed spreader at a yard sale. It holds almost a whole bag of deer corn. Then you just push it around where you want the corn and it broadcasts it. Its fast and easy and the deer are spread out and don't destroy the grass or dig holes like they do under a feeder. Also it takes them longer to eat it and find it all.

That's what we did last year and got so excited because I could swear I heard a couple of them jump the cattle fence, and on another occasion I heard one respond to a grunt. Although just as I was waiting for them to come in and eat up, the darn horses decided THEY wanted the corn and realized that if I was climbing through the fence, they could to. LOL

I gotta get hubby out there on the back lot with a chainsaw. Clear it out some and get to throwing some feed.

IDK...my DH has yet to ruin any of the meat of the hide and he loves his 30-06 I bought him. Guns are much more efficient in feeding a family but bow hunts are much more exciting and seem to be more of 'real hunting' if you will. If you are a good shot you can make just about any shot without ruining the meat or hide.

This year my DH hit a deer at 345 yrds. (I think, I may be off a yrd or two) and it dropped in its tracks and didn't even have time to let out his last breath. When he went to drag the deer its last breathe came out in a huff....this was his biggest buck ever too. It scored a 190something I think....That is what the taxidermist said anyway.
