Deformed egg?

Hello guys,

I picked up 3 new Silkie hens at the weekend and this morning noticed one wasn't quite as alert as the other. I brought her in gave her food and water as I thought maybe she was dehydrated as they had filled their water fish with their bedding.
I have just been and checked on her and she had laid an egg and seemed brighter and is eating next to the egg I found a something strange, it's like a sack of fluid but similar colour to her egg.

Can anyone tell me what this is and if this is why she was a little off this morning ?

That is a shell membrane.
Can you tell us what the end feels like or can you cut that open? Likely it's all membrane and just a laying glitch due to stress of going to a new home.
Something like that is very hard to pass, so it's good that she was able to pass it and is perking up.

For her and the other 2, I would direct dose them with poultry vitamins for a few days to help with stress.

One end is very squishy then the flatter end is a little more firm and it seems to have clear liquid inside, sort of like egg white consistency.
I thought it might have been something to do with moving house. She's been eating and drinking and gas settled down for the night.
I may keep her indoors tonight just to make sure she is ok before popping her back out with her friends.

Probably stress, but I would watch her for a couple of days. Try to get a good look at her poop if you keep her in overnight.

Put waterer up on a concrete block, or something stable, less chance of bedding fouling it.

Something like that is very hard to pass, so it's good that she was able to pass it and is perking up.

Yep, they can act pretty weird when a softie is moving down the pike.

If at all possible, better to crate her in the coop.
I isolate bird in a wire cage within the coop for a day or two....so I can closely monitor their intake of food and water, crop function(checking at night and in morning before providing more feed), and their poops. Feel their abdomen, from below vent to between legs, for squishy or hard swelling. Check for external parasites or any other abnormalities.

Best to put crate right in coop or run so bird is still 'with' the flock.
I like to use a fold-able wire dog crate (24"L x 18"W x 21"H) with smaller mesh(1x2) on bottom of crate under tray.
Then you can put tray underneath crate to better observe droppings without it being stepped in. If smaller mesh is carefully installed, tray can still be used inside crate.

I'd leave her with the Hens to not cause her more stress. Just keep an eye on her. It might take a few days for her to settle in.

Hello everyone,

Thanks for all your help, I'm happy to report that she was back out to her friends the day after this happened and she was was completely back to normal.
I have introduced the 3 newbie to my existing flock today after keeping them separated with wire since they arrived, so far all is going well, a few squabbles and a few pecks but they will soon sort them selves out
