Delaware hen crowing?

She is a hen. She will crow and lays eggs. She has even raised some chicks too. After all, she is 4-years-old in the spring.

@rebrascora was referring to the original poster's pullet. Any female chicken under a year old is a pullet, thereafter its referred to as a hen.

Yes, I too have had several crowing hens that laid eggs and raised chicks, but the OP's bird is just 5 months old and therefore a pullet or a cockerel.

Sorry. I didn't understand what you meant. I usually use the term: Pullet but she had Hen in the title of the thread so I didn't really think. I thought that you were doubting what i meant. Sorry.

No problem. The point I made just before your post was that whilst hens do crow perhaps more often than people would expect, it is very unusual for a pullet to crow, especially one that hasn't started laying eggs yet, so in my book, this may still turn out to be a cockerel that just hasn't developed it's pointed saddle/hackle feathers yet.

Looks like a pullet to me. While females can crow (somewhat rare), more often they're performing an egg song. These sometimes sound uncannily similar to crowing attempts.

It's not that unusual for a mature hen to crow but it is much less common for a pullet to crow. Whilst it does looks like a pullet, that comb and wattles are very red for 5 months in a slower growing breed like a Delaware, maturing in winter and I think it may yet be a slow developing cockerel.... I'm not saying it definitely is, but I wouldn't totally rule it out yet.

I had a Delaware cockerel and still have the pullet. They matured faster than all my other breeds. My cockerel was crowing at 19 weeks. I really think this is a pullet that is crowing.
This gal also has petite legs. My cockerel had Schwarzenegger legs at 19 weeks.
