I hate buying eggs AND feed, also! It just seems so self-defeating
Your hen is just closer to laying, is all. Eventually all the hens will have red combs, they just develop at different rates, even from the same hatch.
I have 3 Delawares, this is the only one with a red comb, the other two have pale pink combs. This is my first year with chickens, so I don't know how to tell the difference. My Easter Egger roo is looking very cocky (haha), but is comb color enough of an indicator? What about the black flecks on its back, the other two have dark grey flecks. Is the more vibrant coloring an indicator, or just a variation?
