Delawareans!!

Do you, or someone you know, have a sweet-natured black Silkie lady looking to spend the rest of her life living in the lap of luxury? Due to the recent demise of Herman the House Rooster (RIP sweet Herman,) The Melancholy Rooster (@MROO) has an immediate opening for a SILKIE LAP CHICKEN. The ideal candidate will be an older, black Silkie female. Must be soft, friendly and willing to be held and/or petted. Good people skills are a must!

Benefits include:
Free room and board
Excellent medical plan
Regular bonuses of fresh kitchen scraps and home-grown mealworms

Duties include:
Travel to classrooms, fairs and retirement homes as part of a breed conservation program.
Provide stress therapy to minimally dramatic teenager.
Occasional gardening duties, as required.
Egg production is a plus but is absolutely NOT a requirement

To the right candidate, travel assistance may be available
RETIREES WELCOME!

Potential candidates may have their humans apply to @MROO, care of Backyard Chickens.

Sorry for the long MIA..it's been a brutal Fall with work and now Covid...I can't catch a break workwise. Hope all the chicks are doing well! Loved your Want Add...LOL! I lost my black Silkie this past Fall to a juvenile opossum. It got 2 of my Silkies and fatally injured an EE. It took me awhile to figure out what and how "what" was getting into the coop. I got a nasty surprise one evening when I came home late (dark out) and opened a nesting box to find the opossum. The kicker...there were actually 2 of them in the end. I still have PTSD from that ordeal. I did order new Silkies, including 2 black ones, to arrive in the Fall. I didn't want to start chicks now with everything going on.

Welcome back! I was "out" for a bit, too, but with the lockdown, I'm stuck at home like the rest of the world. I do have chicks, at the moment, but no Silkies. I'm hoping someone has an older, non-producing hen that needs a retirement home. That would be ideal! In the meantime, I've got some two-week-old Asian Black pullets I'm raising for a friend and five brand-spankin'-new Nankin bantam chicks. They're SO TINY! It doesn't matter how many times we hatch Nannies out, I'm always floored by how itty-bitty they are. They're so cute! As a bonus, after I'd set the ones in the 'bator, I had a hen go broody on me. She's now about ten days into a set of nine eggs - all viable at the first candling a few days ago. Fingers crossed!

I was just checking to see if there were any new Delawareans on the board!!!!

Hi! New Delaware chicken mama here from Kent County. I have 4 Rhode Island Reds & 4 of what I suspect are ISA Browns who were supposed to be Buff Orpingtons. (Thanks Tractor Supply). They are about 9 weeks old now. Anyone else sick of this wind?! My one poor girl Sunny was almost blown off the ramp that leads to the coop yesterday.

Wind? What wind? I can't go outside to check 'cause every time I try to open my door someone tries to yank it away from me! Zheesh! This stuff is VICIOUS! Now, if we could just get it to blow this virus away ...
Welcome to BYC! I'm in Ceciltucky, MD, all of six minutes away from DE (and PA too, if you count s bit slowly.) I have mostly Nankin bantams - critically endangered & critically sweet little birds. The rest are "Kindergarten Rescues" - brought home after the incubator experience at our local elementary school. One is a Jersey Giant hen ... and Holy Cow, does she ever dwarf my little Nannies!

Hello Everyone, I'm in Sussex County Delaware now.

I have some handsome young Roos that are sweet, hugged daily, if anyone is interested. I can deliver to DE, MD, PA, etc. If not, I will keep them, they are ok, boys are together in the bachelor pad coop for now.

I have a handsome Rhode Island Red Roo, hatched May 23rd. He is 75% RIR & 25% White Rock (Papa RIR, Mama Comet)

If you want a pair, I do have a pure RIR hen, hatched May 24th.

I also have a very handsome Buff Orpington Roo.

I have all parents here if anyone wants photos of them as well.
