Well, now, how's THAT for a coinkydink?
I just joined the forum, and am also in MD but just barely - and just got my first chicken in DE.
We live in between Elkton and Newark - my partner's family on his father's side are long-time Delawareans; he himself was born in DE, grew up in out of state but came back to go to U.D. and never left. He lived in and around Newark until buying our property a few years back. He is of course a "Fightin' Blue Hen" fan... I'm thinking we may need to get at least one real Delaware Blue.
I grew up in rural PA ....Adams County, near Gettysburg.... but for the past 20+ years had been living down near Baltimore... the last 10 years or so, was living with and taking care of my parental units (they married late in life - my Mam was 46 when her last child was born) as well as working full time.
But I've been traveling up to Cecil County for relationship purposes & to Oxford & Bear for dog agility competitions for nearly 10 years, and this area always felt more like home to me than the highly-urbanized area where my official residence was. Mam passed on 4 years ago, and I finally got my dad moved into long-term care earlier this year, so I was finally free to move in with my partner.
We've got 2 acres, and I'm planning on having a mid-size garden in the spring, as well as on having 2-3 pet hens & letting them do bug patrol. Don't think I'll be breeding any time soon, since one of our neighbors can't stand the sound of a rooster.
