Delawares from kathyinmo

I have a Delaware cockerel ... the one I was going to donate to the youth poultry event ... who has an interesting tail issue. He fans his tail out a bit like a turkey when he's chasing the females! But instead of one smooth fan across his backside, it's two nearly parallel fans sticking out behind him. At rest his tail is almost pinched, when he's showing off it looks split. Plus that, the primary tail feathers are long and wide with super thick barring and he only has one or two sickle feathers. It's just weird. I've been chasing him with the iPhone trying to get a decent shot because it's such a curiosity.

Obviously I won't be sending him off with any unsuspecting youths. But what an interesting tail!

It's a shame about the tail as he has good color for my flock (except for that thick tail barring), a decent comb, gorgeous legs, wonderfully folded wings, he's big, and has a huge-looking round chest!

Has anyone else come across such a thing? Or am I just lucky?

I penned the few Delawares I have left. I have 2 males. One is brassy and has a crappy wing. The other is lighter colored and has no brassiness. I am using him. I have 6 hens. We'll see what I get!

I do have a couple little helpers now days.

Hi Kathy! Always good to hear from you. After seeing your video of that fox, I was worried. I've never seen a fox brave enough to just stand there, in front of a dog and people. That's a dangerous predator with no fear. I'm so glad that you still have chickens left and can do some more breeding of the Delawares!

Such cute grandsons! I see that you convinced them to pose, this time.
