Delawares from kathyinmo

I am so jealous. I never get broody hatches of that many.  Not that I need more chicks mind you, but if they're dels you can't have to many.

I gave her too many eggs expecting to divide the clutch with a second broody (we still haven't had a second broody!) and fewer of them to hatch.

I'd be worried except last year one of the hatchery mutts did a great job with 17 chicks she surprised us with one day.

I'd love to have bigger clutches and not have to spread out the season as long as I had to last year just to hatch 50 Delawares. Though I prefer to have two hens on each hatch so they can co-parent.

Now I need more broodies! Zanna took a bunch of my Mr. Fatty fertilized eggs to incubate for me and I'd much rather let broodies raise the chicks! I'm not mommy material.

That reminds me ... I need to consider how many eggs I gave Zanna so I can decide when to switch out Mr. Fatty for PapaDel ... I might be more ahead than I thought.

You sent me with 23 eggs which I will be setting tonight. I will candle at day 7 - 10 and let you know if/how many are duds. Looking at your first hatch maybe all 23 will hatch :) Fertility is obviously not an issue! Can't promise I'll do as good of a job as the broodies!

Yes, Mr. Fatty is doing his job! Hahaha!

I was also worried about the pipping and zipping as those eggs weren't huge and had thick shells.

I had such a "foolproof" plan. Then the birds showed me who the fool is. Again. ;)

I'll be candling eggs in the incu soon. Hopefully many of them will be good. It's in the basement now and seems to be keeping good temp. Though not as high as I'd like.

I'm surprised the humidity doesn't hold better considering how damp it is down there. Perhaps not as damp as my joints tell me it is.

The chicks in the brooder seem to love it down there. I rarely hear a peep out of them. The must be content.

He frequents Showbirdbid.com with the same user name. Maybe a private message from that forum would work but when Kim and I have posted questions on that forum and BYC when he was still on, he would not respond. He posted once that one of his pullets from Kathy won something at a show and when we asked questions and wanted him to post pics. there was no response.......... Very disappointing as I am sure he could help us all a lot.

Aww I cant wait to see all those babies <3

She actually called Neil a while back and said she has had some family issues so has scaled back her Delaware activity quite a bit.
That's to bad, the family issues. I pray things settle down for her so she can have some peace. The Delawares will always be there for her to pick back up later.
