Say WHAT?!? Not hatching?!? Very sad, though understandable if you're moving. Please don't give up, though.

That's all my chicks so far this year. Got more coming this week, though.

I've a hen that is broody but I can't deal with hens hatching right now. We're leaving for 6 weeks. Not the usual time period but DW wants to go and DD is due very soon.

I've banded the hen so I'll know who she is for future. I'm not sure how DD will deal with her while I'm gone.

Being there when the baby is fresh is very nice. It's great your DD can have her mom around her during that time.

Today's count shows 14 Mr. Fatty chicks exploring the broody cage. We had set 15 eggs. Not too bad. I haven't gotten to take a good look yet, so don't know if there are any weaklings. Been SUPER busy.

It's the second really good hatch of Mr. Fatty eggs under a broody hen this season. Fingers crossed they all make it to feather stage.

I didn't note how many eggs I set under the first hen cuz I was nervous to give her so many and was too much in denial to count. That time there were 13 live chicks on hatch day (all still doing well) and I didn't find any whole eggs in the nest.

Now I'm not so nervous to give the broodies large clutches. I started two broodies yesterday with PapaDel eggs, and I gave them each 15 eggs.

Also, yesterday we brought home 13 Mr. Fatty chicks from Zanna's to put under a broody hen. Zanna hatched them in her incubator for us. This makes me nervous as the chicks are 10 days old already, and because the hen hadn't been setting for very long (she went broody last week). Last night everything seemed okay, she had gotten them all under her. But they aren't under her now so I need to run out there and see if we can get that worked out ... they are in a special cage that I can climb into ...

Dd has reported the hen is still broody. Even though she has no eggs.
