Delawares from kathyinmo

Oh, yeah. Those combs are still little and pale. But I see red in their cheeks & waddles.

Your birds are sure big and bossy looking! And CLEAN! I'd be squeezing them all day long.

I need better pastures so they stay grassy and my birds stay cleaner. Pretty soon we will be expanding our poultry pastures by a LOT ... that should help.

I think once the pullets decide to get ready to lay it happens quickly. The one hen that was lagging the last time I took photos, when I was out there on Sunday I was thinking, "Hey, she's getting closer!" Then today we got a second egg.

How do you get your birds to pose so nicely?

If it made any sense at all distance wise I could take a lot of poo off your hands for sure!

Come and get it :)

I am sure they are not hiding them, look at the combs. Pictures taken today. Getting close though........

Wow! Those girls are beautiful!!!! I agree...not ready yet.

Mine turned 8 mo. old this week, have full combs and wattles that are bright red and no eggs to be found. Same with the WRs, though they don't have the comb and wattle development of the Dels and are the same age...no eggs. I locked them down to the coop to see if they had just been laying out, but nope.

I'm going to try a little experiment soon and see what happens with the laying.... or nonlaying.

Wow Zanna - look at the TeePee tail on that girl ! Wide body stance . She is going to be a fine specimen .
I have noticed on mine the ones closer to SOP have more of a columbian hackle than the others. But I only have
five to compare with.
I don't understand why no eggs - I know 3 of my 5 are laying and your are a week or two older I think.[ our ship date was 4/25 ]
Maybe a climate difference. although its 22 degrees here this AM.

Nice, Zanna. How is the breast fleshing on those big girls?

I'm very happy with the eggs that my Dels are laying. Huge brown eggs. 4-6 a day from 7 pullets.

Hi all, I haven't posted for a while, but wanted opinions on my Delawares. I have just 3 pullets and 1 cockerel now. I have seen one egg from the pen the Delaware are in, but I have some Rhode Island Reds in there, too. Can't be sure, but bet it is one of the Delawares starting to lay. I like the beefy look to the pullets, and their nice wide open tails.

Here is my cockerel. Not a great photo of him, he is in a small cage by himself at the moment.
