Delawares! What do YOU think? Im not impressed....at all

you've got it ALLLLLL wrong! I was trying to get opinons on those exact birds themselves! I ordered from Texas Poultry and found out that their birds come from Privett (thats what was on the box they were shipped in) so I wanted to look up their website and their birds to see if I could find a picture somewhere of THEIR Dellies to see what quality birds I may be getting. I already know that hatchery stock is never very good and that only very rarely do you get "lucky." I was looking for answers like speckled hen and seriousbill were giving. I wanted them to "judge" those particular birds so I have an idea on what I've got and so that I can start trying to find birds that are exagerated or "just right" where my birds have flaws and eventually introduce them into my flock and slowly start taking out the bad and bringing in the new. I guess I should have been more specific. I still have every intention in helping to preserve the breed and get as close as I can to the standard Delaware. I know that its unfortunate that I had to start with hatchery birds, but I live in the middle of nowhere and had no other choice really. Not unless I'm willing to drive for hours and I'm not, not at this time anyways. I did get lucky and find one dellie hen and one cockerel. I am picking them up on wednesday. I have not seen pictures of the hen, but am impressed with the cockerel. Once I get them home I will post pictures for you to "judge" them. If anyones got any hens or pullets they want to give up please be sure and let me know as I am very excited about this and have already become attached to one of my chicks. I just didnt think in this particular picture shown that they even looked like true Delawares. If they turn out to be Delaware mixes like you had said I will be terribly disappointed! Only time will tell! And one more thing::::: I already have over $100 into these chicks....noway no how am I giving up on them, if not for any other reason!

Please accept my apology, kryptonite...I interpreted your post entirely wrong. But I think a couple of other folks did too. Again, I am truly sorry.

They actually look like dellies!! lol...and nice ones at that! I sure hope mine look that nice...they sure are cuties now! Are those the only two you ordered from them? Also do you go directly through Privett to get them? Do you have pics of them as chicks so i can compare lol.....

edited to ask if the one in the background in the 4th pic is a delly from there? if not what kind is it?

OK, so can anyone recommend some breeders? Are there any that will sell just a couple of a couple of different breeds? I was looking at McMurry, but now I'm not sure. I'd prefer to support people trying to improve and maintain the breed vs churning them out! I suppose it is probably akin to puppy farms vs hobby breeders.

Just out of curiosity, can all y'all give me a rough idea of how close to the standard (or far from it) my roo appears to be? He'll be a year old in a few days, these pics were taken in Sept and Oct.

Just posting to say that we bought our Delis from the feed store, who gets them from Privett. I sorta did the same thing, after we bought the babies I looked at the pic on the Privett website and wondered what in the sam-hill we'd been thinking. We bought 12, one turned out to be a roo, and they have all turned out to be great looking birds. They don't look like the birds on the Privett website at all. In fact, most of the bird pics they have there don't look too good.

Okay, forgive me for posting these darn silly looking pics of my son goofing around with the dog and the chickens, because none of the pics have very good shots of any of them, but this will show you a little about how our Privett Delis turned out. Show quality? Prolly not....but we have been very pleased with both our Delis and Lorps from Privett........I believe that's our little roo, Joe Biden, in the pics. He's about 2 1/2 months old.

Ha, Braden loves to go out and lie face down in the grass and let the chickens come walk all over him. It seemed cute til I posted a picture, now it just sounds a little ODD!!!

Hope your delis turn out okay, we wouldn't trade for ours....
