I have about 100 Delawares right now. I love them.
Gentle giants. My older roos, Spartacus and Hercules, are the
most dignified chickens we have ever had but the juvies are still big clowns. Bought them from a Delaware breeder back in April 2008 (he was retiring) ranging in age from day old to 10 months. They are eating me out of house and home (even though they have free range of 30 acres, they never leave the back 2 acres) but they are gorgeous, even tempered birds and I am glad I chose them. Got lost of hens but way too many roos, so got to sell some of them off soon. We havn't tried the meat yet, but the eggs are huge and beautiful. Should have hatching eggs next year.
I picked the Dels mainly for their status as endangered via ALBC.
Gonna try to do my personal part to help the breed re-establish. Also, my great grandmother raised Delawares, so there was a nostalgic connection. I am trying to post some pics of them but haven't succeeded in getting that done yet.
