denegard, baytril or tylan?

DId they talk to you about tube feeding? Are they giving her subcutaneous fluids?

-Kathy

They have been giving fluids and tube feeding since she's been there, Monday afternoon.
The first two days no progress, but they had her on a broad spectrum antibiotic. After fighting with them... ( I wanted them to get her on denaguard, I offered to bring to them) they started her on a new antibiotic that they felt was effective against mycroplasma.
Since yesterday she's improved. Eating, and starting to stand.

When you pick her up make sure they show you how to tube feed. If you've ever given subcutaneous fluids to a cat or dog, you have have them sow you how to do that, too.

What drug is she on now?

I can't remember... it's an oxy something they said was effective in treating mycroplasma. I have another local vet who worked for UC Davis poultry extension program for 10 years, were going to him tomorrow.
I'm stupidly attached to this girl and spending way too much money, however I'm hopeing he can teach me more about managing mycroplasma in my flock. I'm going to ask him about the denaguard.
I'll post what he says.

But yes, I'll ask to learn how to tune feed. I've given oral meds before, with a syringe down the throat to the crop. Is it similar??

@casportpony thanks for checking in! She getting a little better.... at the vet now picking her up and taking her to a diff vet. Looks like that have her on oxytetricyclin injections 2x a day for 10-14 days. Also looks like they've been giving an antinflamitory. I'll post an update after the next appt with what the "new" vet says.

Ok so here's the skinny. She's improving, but clearly having respratory distress.
Treatment is injectable oxytetracyclin 2x a day
Oral trimeth sulfa 2x day
And metacam 1x a day
The antibiotics for 10 days

I just brought her home and have her isolated.
I added nutridrench to some apple sauce and she ate quite a bit... she's also eating food on her own right now.
I'm not going to add anything to water because I want to make sure she drinks and she tends to be picky.
I also just added some vet rx to hot water as a vaporizer.
For now she is up and moving around, and eating so I'm hopeful.
Fingers crossed.
Vet said it's likely a secondary infection that kicked off the mycroplasma.....
I'll update tomorrow on her progress.
Isolating her for the next 10 days will be interesting!
