Dented egg day 17

I’ve been periodically putting water on a qtip and moistening the membrane, but this morning I woke up to it just seeming extra cracked and another egg is pipping already. The membrane looks dry on the cracked one, but I don’t want to open the incubator and ruin the for sure healthy one that’s pipping. I wish I wouldn’t have dented the one. I feel awful
Stuff happens. I've done this too and it does leave you feeling down. Concentrate on the ones that are viable, try to forgive yourself. :hugs

That’s such a nice thing to say. I feel like I should’ve studied a lot more before trying to hatch for the first time. I’ve learned a lot on what to do next time. Do you think cracked chick is gone then?

We all have to start at some point to learn, and the best way is to set the eggs and start incubating! :) Everyone makes mistakes on their first hatch, I did too, it's part of the learning process. I have cracked a couple of eggs, one I taped with scotch tape and the embryo developed with a perfect hatch. Another egg was similar to yours, it got to the internal pip stage but it dried out and stuck to the shell, of course dying. So it's hard to say how yours will turn out, I personally would just let nature take its course now and concentrate on the others. Once you hear the peeping and see the zipping, your heart will warm up!

Id say anyone who has hatched for any period of time has ran into an incident like. I remember the first time I was the cause of a chick not making it and it was very sad.

However, it is better to have attempted to hatch and have an issue than than to grab a chick out of a bin at a feed store. We know going into it there are risks, and I commend you for starting in
The endeavor in the first place!

Absolutely! Unfortunately there is no manual to raising chickens or hatching eggs. We just have to dive in head first sometimes into the unknown. There will most likely be mistakes made along the way, but this is the only way to learn. And if we pick ourselves up and keep going, eventually we become proficient at all this and hopefully hand our experiences down to others here. This is what BYC is all about! There is nothing more rewarding in life than to know more today than you did yesterday, and usually this requires mistakes.

The chick that is pipping started at 11:20am. It’s 6:05pm, and it’s made very little progress. That’s normal?
Yes, totally normal. After they pip to breathe air, they can sit like this for 12 to 24 hours, right now the chick is absorbing the last of the egg yolk and detaching itself from the shell. So sit tight, don't touch anything and don't panic. :D How egg-citing! :jumpy
