Hey DD, how are you? I am on the maximum dose of meds that i am on. Wouldn't want to take less, but you know yourself best. Can you cut the pill in 1/4s and slowly decrease?I feel like a phony on here now. I get upset now and then - usually a good hard cry and a nap take care of it. So much different than I used to be. Outlived two psychiatrists(both died of different cancers).Where I go for my health exams etc. they had a psychiatrist that came one day a month for a couple of hours - and free. I don't think I ever saw more than one other person waiting for him. He would show up very late and then spend maybe 5- 10 minutes with a patient.
I told him years ago, I felt like I was doing much better because I wasn't crying like I used - even at things like a dog food commercial. He said I should feel much better than that on my meds. So he doubled the dose. Ended up giving me 40 mg when I used to do great on 20. Even the pharmacist said that was a very high dose for a person of my age.
Tried to make an appt. with him to have him reduce the dosage. They told me he suddenly left for NM. Wonder if he was being investigated. Can't find a psychiatrist to reduce the dosage. They cost way more now. I know how to wean myself off - gradually, otherwise changes up or down can bring on "seratonin syndrome. But I can't change the prescription amount myself.
I would like to go down slowly 10 mg. but, cannot get the 10 or even 20m mg to work with. I know splitting the 40 mg. would give me 2-20's but I don't want to lower it that much. Ideally I would put myself on 30 mg. for a period of time, then reduce it to 20. Oh well.
I'm not getting any bad side effects but I know I don't need the high dosage. I may not need it at all.![]()
Yes, Effexor Xr, 75mg x 3I think it would just crumble. Are you on a SSRI? Dr.tried me on Paxil,Prozac,Luvox, Serzone, Wellbutrin, Effexor, Parnate, Nardil,-actually he didn't try them out as long as it takes to show results. But then got to Celexa and it was a good fit.
Thing was when I first started taking it after months on it - it would stop working. Had to put me on something (even tho it didn't work) until some time passed. Then he'd put me back on Celexa and it was fine and dandy.
Since the doctor gave me the big dose of 40mg, it hasn't stopped working or else like I said maybe I just don't need it anymore . Not only that but brand name Celexa worked fine - the stuff I got later was Citalopram(the generic form of Celexa), and I noticed differences. I only take dose once a day (in morning) but I often forget and I'm fine. Knock on wood.
