Derperella, the (weird) Faverolles, & Friends

I actually like the phase you did earlier that said "If life gives you lemons, stare at them." I would like that on a shirt. Adorable chicken and story. Faverolles are gorgeous chooks (have a rooster cross, over a year old and never crowed, real gentleman and loves cuddles).

I actually have a "special" chicken myself. Wheaten maran hen with "pigeon toes", or really bent feet. He walks on her chicken wrists so to best explain. Unfortuently being at work while all the chicks decide to hatch in the incubator and her anatomy rejecting my home-made chicky-booties permanently deformed her. Happy girl and heading towards a year old this October. No where near as fascinating and heart-pulling as your little girl has gone through! Must have been hell at the start.

I'm really sorry for the lack of updates, everyone. After Trousers died and I found out we have Marek's in my flock now (and forever, really), it was a pretty hard double blow. I would have a few photos and stories to tell but I felt all the joy sucked out of it when I sat down to write. It really is remarkable how one special animal's passing can effect oneself. I also am always reminded of all the things I now can't ever responsibly do with my chickens, such as possibly breeding Faverolles in the future (thank you everyone that has suggested ways I might try to do it safely, but the truth is that I will never feel comfortable selling a bird off of my property, no matter how careful I am!). So while I have been enjoying my chickens very much, I have really felt pretty down when it came to writing about them.

Then Derp developed this wry neck problem and I felt even worse! We are having some medical shenanigans right now in our home and I just can't afford to get her to the vet unless it is life threatening or a quality of life issue (so far neither of these has been a problem).

I did get a video of Derp in the nest box earlier in the week and I will work on uploading it.

For now though, I have two things I can share.

One is a video I made with dear Moa, about how chickens make very bad pets!!

The second, is a painting I did for my husband (the Fud Guy) for his birthday. When we go fishing, we often chat about random things, and one day he turned to me and said, "I can just imagine Coho stepping over that hill, looking for me. Saying, 'bup... BUP??'" ... as Coho loves the Fud Guy and wants to be cuddling him at all times.
We thought this was hilarious so I painted the scene.

Awesome! I adore that painting! And that video is really good too! :D
