Derperella, the (weird) Faverolles, & Friends

True I love your art too as well Nambroth, I wish you were still selling fridge magnets of them. I still have that one I bought two years ago of Derp. I have so much stuff on my walls already, that magnets would be the only way I could display it. And I love chicken fridge magnets.

This is a FABULOUS thread!!! I live with 4 ducks and a goose (oh, and a husband, 2 kids, 2 dogs, 2 cats and 15 fish). I had originally done some research and was going for chickens this spring but somehow ended up with ducks (3 @ first and then another and then a goose). I LOVE THEM! They are hysterical... like little clowns in feathers! Hard to be in a bad mood when I'm out with them. But now... well now I want to live with chickens, too! I don't even know how I ended up on this thread; I'm usually researching ducks/goose stuff. But, Boy Howdy! Am I ever glad I found it!

Nambroth, your talent seems endless and it appears to match your patience, love and dedication to your feathered babies. And what kind, kind people are involved in this thread! Well, I should expand that to most of BYC... WHAT A GREAT PLACE!

I will be watching for new posts...

Merry Christmas, Everyone!

True, but I was just wondering if parrots have congitive intelligence to actually understand they are eating another bird or meat, instead of just some tasty yummy seed or fruit.

Hmm. That is something that we may never find out. I think they certainly recognize it as protein, but do they understand the source? Being indoor, pet birds, it's hard to say. They are certainly intelligent animals, but their intelligence is different than ours.
The chickens understand meat and where it comes from, though. I have seen them hunt small animals! They sure do love it.

I will look into this! I'll see who makes the best quality custom magnets out there.

Probably not. Especially since they don't see anything that would equate the food with where it came from. Here's my Kiele eating an egg. At 3 years old, she'd still revert back to baby behaviors when presented with a warm scrambled egg. She also loved picking at the bits of meat left on plain hot wings. I love pionus!

It was always so delightfully wrong to watch.
