That is just your hark work on taking such good care of your hens, even ones with health issues like Derp and Coho that you have gotten to middle age and the begining of old age for chickens. I don't know if Coho or Derp will be the type to live to super old age like nine years but you have definitely got them to thrive and survive through a normal chicken life span.

Um so wait a minute here....chickens only live a few years? That is ahuge bummer. Seems like you only get a chance to just start knowing them and loving them and poof their gone. Gosh I thought dogs had too shortof a life span. Sometimes it just aint fair. What is the average life span for chickens then, I mean if they arent predated or get sick or anything abnormal. Just pecking around and doing normal chicken things....I mean if no other things factor in, cuz I am pretty sure my first two chickens are older, no idea how old. But Begawky is stringy and tough already and has no down anywhere on her body. She reminds me of the saying "a tough old bird" . Im' going to be just bummed to lose her, or any of them for that matter..

Gosh, there are so many variables as to the lifespan of chickens. Breed, genetics, disease, diet, housing, predation... etc.
I have known many people with chickens older than 5. A friend had one pass away at 13. I don't think 5-7 years is unreasonable with good diet, genetics, care, etc.

I agree with Nambroth...I hear of LFs living to the ripe old age of 10,12,13.
Seramas don't have long life spans tho....

It is really a crapshoot....ya keep them healthy and well fed and pray....
