Derperella, the (weird) Faverolles, & Friends

Well thats a huge relief at least. Although as much as I worry about them and dash outside all the time to check on them and in the middle of the night poking my head in to the coop, they will probably outlive me

= This is me after worrying about all the little things they do.....

Just imagine - another 7 (or more) years of Derpdates!

Poor Nambroth must be tearing her hair out at the thought - keeping us addicts (or should that be 'Derpdicts'?) satisfied for the last couple of years must have been hard enough!

Long may the fud lady, Derp and all her friends keep us entertained

The age of a chicken can sometimes depend on the breed. Most chickens will live to 7-9, some breeds it is thought unusual if they don't live to 10, and the commercial battery types and meat type hybrids may only just reach 4-5

MOST EGGSCELLENT info Nickeyo.....This is what I have learned on the subject; Chickens were originally used for eggs, baby making and food so they did not need to live a very long time. Now that the tables have turned and they are used more for pleasure, like backyard pets, showing eggs, we want them to live a longer life.
Hatcheries just want to crank out as many chicks as they can so genetics/ survival of the fitess stuff gets tossed out the window. Show chickens are bred with just pretty looks in mind..no genetics... SO afterwhile ya get some crummy genes causing all sorts of problems [ and dear Derp falls into this former catagory] .

The only thing us humans can do is be very choosey on who we get our chicks from, watch out for alot of inbreeding and then after we get those good strong genes in a hen/roo make yer own babies.

Just my thoughts on the subject is all....I get off my soap box now and wish all you peeps.....

A VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!
