Derperella, the (weird) Faverolles, & Friends

Derpy is so precious! I just found this thread today and just finished reading all 75 pages!
Derpy reminds me of my mentally challenged siamese cat, Siggy, who we lost last year at 17 and a half years old to kidney failure. He was so sweet and unique, just like Derpy! I have pictures, just not on this computer, so if you want to see some let me know.
Siggy, short for Sigerson, was a blue point runt siamese that my parents got from a breeder when I was almost a year old. The amateur breeders that bred him seemed to have been trying to breed a smaller siamese by using the runt genes; on his breeder papers it says "Runt Siamese" under breed (we still have them, I could take a picture to show you if you want proof). He had this tiny head and tiny paws on his already small body, his adult teeth never grew in so he always had tiny kitten-sized teeth, and kept most of that kitten-fluff throughout his life; he was also de-clawed in the front too. Oh and he was born on Valentine's Day!
Like all Siamese cats, he had a unique meow and a big one at that, he had this big voice that you could hear from outside the house, some people said he sounded baby-like or yowl-like, but it was just how he meowed. Siggy was a big talker, he liked to talk back to you, let you know when he was coming, when he was upset, but most of the time he talked because he just wanted to. He did have these big blue eyes up until he was about 8 or 9 years old, they turned dark dark gray for no reason the vet could find. He was born neurotic and Derpy-like, he liked to become what we called a "Siggy lump" burrowing under the blankets so you had to be careful going onto the bed if it the blankets were lumpy-looking. He also greatly enjoyed chewing on my dad's nose and only his nose, no one else's nose was good enough for him. There is so many stories I could tell about him, there just isn't space on this post to put them all, plus this thread is about a chicken, not a cat.
As Siggy got older, he got more and more unique. He became senile, often forgetting what he was doing or where he was going or if he had already eaten a meal or not. He would often sit himself down and stare at walls, talking to them. We joked that he "could see dead kitties," with the way he just stared off at nothing. He also became narcoleptic, falling asleep anywhere and everywhere. You would often find Siggy sitting in a gargoyle-like stance with his eyes open, asleep.
Even with all his problems and quirks, he was the sweetest cat we had never owned. Siggy loved everyone and loved to cuddle, he would cuddle with even a stranger that he had never met before. His complete innocence was adorable and worth admiring. Sadly he had to part with us last year, leaving everyone who knew him heartbroken. He was totally one of a kind, like Derperella.

My boys are awesome! I just love them! I can pick them up and hug and cuddle them any time and they don't mind one bit! They actually enjoy being cuddled. They do crow, I would say average, but not excessively. My two boys are always busy. They run around grumbling to themselves like little old men that always has something important to do. Which I guess they do! LOL They have to make sure all the hens are safe and sound, I guess. They are also great daddies and help care for the chicks. I will try to get some new pics of them with the chicks. They call them over to get something good to eat and watch over them. I could spend hours watching those two. One other thing is they help the girls too. I have too many other boys right now and have to rehome some but if any of the boys are being rough with the girls, they will go knock them off and then circle the girl so the other rooster doesn't come back. Lenny is actually the head roo and Squiggy is 2nd in line despite his disability! 
LOL. I do have roos that are bigger than them but these 2 managed to get on top. They are bantams but they are built like little football players, very solid and well built in the breast area. The Fav boys have to be my favorite rooster for their good looks and gentle personality!

This is Mr. Fluffers and Rosie... Rosie is gone... Hawk... But Mr Fluffers now... Best boy EVER! He has a loud peicing crow. I do not let him out of the coop till after 9 am. Give the neighbors plenty of time to wake up. He is not mean to any of my girls. No back issue or bald heads. He's even good with the littles that run around here. He does not however like my silkies. He is 2, and has never shown any aggression to me or my boys. He even will help make nests. LOVE LOVE LOVE him.

Ooo lemme take a crack at the quiz!
1. I totally have added Favs because of Derp. Right now I have two ladies trying out their grown up honking voices
2. So far my girls really arn't Derpy per se. More like very calm, and prone to trying to roost under one another, which makes for hilarious circling.
3. I totally bought a Derp shirt!
4. No pics of Derp in my coop. I don't want them getting ideas and laying eggs on top of each other

I feel like I have made all sorts of new friends through reading this site. I, like everyone else here, have joined the "Cult of Derp". I look forward to posts but have not gotten around to joining the upper-tier of the cult by buying a shirt.....but it is probably in my future.
I have a slightly amusing tale from my own small and very young (4 weeks old) flock. I have 4 pullets that I hope will be my laying hens of the future. They are:
3 red sex links - Rita, Dot and Aurelia
1 Tetra Tint - Gerty
I also have 4 Cornish Crosses for my hubby - they are all named Darryl. The deal is I raise them and he "processes" them.
So far it seems that Gerty will be the leader although Rita is a close second. Gerty is smart and adventurous. I have 2 dogs Iggy and Tess. They are both mutts and Tess is downright spare parts. I had the mail - in DNA test run on them as a Christmas present from some friends of mine one year, and between the two of them they represent 11 breeds.
Iggy is a plain brown medium size dog and has some German Shepherd in him. He has become very protective of the chickens when they are out in the chicken tractor although I remain suspicious about his motivation for protecting them (think chicken nuggets). The other day he was at the wire mesh in the lower section calmly watching Chicken TV when Gerty came strutting up to him.
Being a dog he decided sniffing noses was the neighborly thing to do. Being a chicken Gerty decided she needed to see if this shiny black thing stuck down at beak level was fud. So, Iggy got his nose pecked, yelped and gave her one good "WUF" as a response. Gerty just figured it might take a few more pecks to figure the shiny thing out cause it still might be fud. Now when Gerty sees Iggy near the wire mesh she comes running and flapping over to him but Iggy is now very cautious about sticking his nose down at beak level and turns his head AWAAAAY and backs up out of beak range.
Altogether not a bad deal since Iggy may now have less of a taste for chicken nuggets.

I love DERP! So, when the hatchery had to substitute a couple chicks on my order, I made one a salmon faverolle. Don't think mine is going to be Derp, though...more like a grouch. Just

HAHA! That is a hilarious photo, Texokie! I too have recently joined the Cult of Derp!! I need to buy a Derp shirt and definitely am planning on ordering some Faverolles with my next batch of chicks. I received one as my mystery chick with my March 2nd shipment from McMurray, but he failed to thrive and we lost him at the tender age of 4 days. What a coincidence it was, though as I had discovered Derp the week prior and was becoming interested in the breed. Hope I have better luck with them next time!
Being chickenless, I went to the library a town over and came out with Raising Chickens for Dummies and Chicken Coops. When my mom saw the books all she had to say was "Oh no!"
