SilkieObsession....

My lovely Mr. Fluffers was an awesome rooster. We had a day time coon attack nearly 2 months back, and he saved the girls. I had a few pullets with missing tails, missing side feathers where little hands and ripped them out trying to grab hold, and Mr. Fluffers sustained a sprained wing and internal injuries. I tried my darndest to keep him going, and he lived for 8 days after the attack, and only one hen was lost. She was also fairly beat up in the attack. It was a juvie coon... He was the first rooster I ever had, and proved to me that not all roosters are created equal. His son however is filling in his foot prints pretty well for a nine month old... His son is mixed with bantam cochin.

Isn't he lovely... I originally named him ubee...(U.B. for Ugly Boy... cuz boy was he an ugly thing when he was a chick. LOL, so ugly he was cute!)

While we wait I thought I'd share my derpy chicken with you all. Her name is Chickpea. She came to me when she was 10 weeks old. I tried to keep her inside with the younger birds so that they'd all integrate, but that proved to be a bit of a problem. I had all the younger ones (they were about 4 weeks younger) in a kiddie pool with three foot high chicken wire around the outside. She would leap over the chicken wire and wander around the house pooping on everything when I was gone. Then she'd go into the duck brooder and eat all their food. Here's a picture of Chickpea now:

Chickpea is obsessed with hair. If you sit anywhere near her, she will come up behind you and start tugging on your hair. Sometimes she's just preening it. Other times she'll jump into my lap, carefully reach up, grab five or six strands, and then quickly yank them from my head and run off to enjoy the spoils of her victory. She also likes to wander on her own away from the rest of the flock until the beta rooster, Honey, has to walk off and collect her. You can almost hear him sigh whenever he goes to get her. Sometimes, I catch her staring at things. Yesterday she decided she needed to stare at a leaf for 3 minutes before joining the rest of the flock in eating the bananas I tossed out for them.

Chickpea's really cute! :love

Thanks! You roo is a pretty boy. Faverolles/cochin mix? I love his coloring and his flooffy butt.
Yes, faverolle x bantam cochin! LOL, he's not near as big as his daddy, but close. Thanks to his one pound mama... Not kidding... I will find a picture of her later... She's always feeling broody. Including now. I have to keep throwing her butt out of the nest!

Lol, that's my silkie hen over here. Still, since she's hatching me out some breeder quality paint silkie/showgirl chicks at the moment, I can't complain. She has five of them and I have four. Just got my first pip!
