Detox Your House and Cosmetics! What do you do?

Great thread @mobius thanks for starting it. Rather timely too, I just saw a story on the news about all the junk in our cosmetics and how that industry is self regulated in this country.

For, oh probably the last 20 years I've been using homemade household cleaners. Essential oils, vinegar, borax, baking soda, and plant based soaps are my ingredients.

Have to be careful about anything that touches my skin due to autoimmune issue so I primarily use vitamin e as my moisturizer, and rotate through shampoos and conditioners at Sprouts.

We do not use any herbicides, ever, nor pesticides except after our neighbors dog died and their ticks came to our yard.

Laundry soap I use a commercial dye free scent free soap that doesn't irritate anyone right now. My husband works outside here in the desert and his uniforms get stinky!

Tile floors get steam mopped which is just plain old water.

I've had two books for years that I use various recipes from. One is called The Naturally Clean Home by Karyn Siegel Maier. The other is Clean and Green by Annie Berthold Bond.

I don't wear makeup, I use a natural antiperspirant rather than deodorant.

Oh! and for your garden cukes, refrigerator cucumbers are delicious and easy. They might need to sit for 3-4 days in the fridge before eating but good luck with that cause they might be eaten before that happens...I use horseradish leaves from the garden for tannin to keep them crisp...will share recipe if anyone interested, next I will make refrigerator cuke relish.

Anyone up for a pickled egg recipe?

Yes please for pickled eggs recipes!! I don't like them, but hubs does and I need to use up some eggs.

I made refrigerator pickles...they didn't last two days:lol:

I use it straight from the bottle after brushing my teeth instead of mouthwash. Great stuff!
I've whitened my teeth using only baking soda and peroxide in a paste mixture! It's crazy to see all the tiny bubbles around my gums still a half hour later...lol and it really does whiten my teeth! I still use commercial toothpaste, I'd love a recipe for homemade toothpaste and homemade deodorant pls!

And speaking of cosmetics...I very seldom ever wear makeup. But when I do I use Younique...a brand I used to sell. impossible to be 100% natural unless you crush up berries for lip color....lol...but it's as natural as it gets. No parabens or knarley chemicals. plus they are a cruelty free company-never test on animals. And their mission is to help sexually abused women and children, they even have a sanctuary for them. Anyway...I've got tons of it packed away, and prob never use it all lol

Wow, this thread blew up... :celebrate For cheese, these folks are my go to source of info--but i use many others as well. http://www.cheesemaking.com/ I do compost, garden, can, dehydrate, freeze, etc... I also grind my own grains. A couple weeks ago I managed to get 12 quarts of marinara out of the garden, crab apple jelly and butter... But crazy canning happens a couple times of year... I save and freeze chicken feet, necks, bones and carcasses. Then I'll make stock from it in a 160 quart pot... Last batch made 82 quarts of stock.:highfive:
