Devastated-Hawkeye is Dead..

Thanks, Kelly. Wasnt it you who lost your Filomena suddenly? I lost Lacy that way, too. This was much worse for us, though. I wanted to share this beautiful spring with my pal and his ladies. Even his son Zane is depressed without his daddy around. Zane has suddenly been thrown into flock leader position at 20 weeks old and seems to be feeling the pressure; he just mopes around the place.

yes, my Filomena died last July & I still think about it often & wonder if I could have done anything to prevent it.
Hawkeye always seemed like a total gentleman from the stories you told us & the pictures you've shared. I'm so glad he got to live a glorious life with you & your girls instead of the way he lived before.
I have been around so rarely these days, I didn't even know you had Zane. What a blessing that is.
My heart really goes out to you, we sort of started our journey with chickens around the same time & I never imagined then how much I'd love these birds.
I'm glad Filomena will have Hawkeye to look after her now

Cheekon, Hawkeye was 10 months old when we got him, then after quarantine, he was 11 months old by the time he was allowed to be near the girls. The girls just happened to be the same age.
Zane is still depressed, but at least he was crowing again a bit today. I made him some scrambled eggs with chopped garlic for his immune system boost, because I don't think he was eating much. And I added AviaCharge vitamins and minerals to his water. I hope he snaps out of it soon. He looks so sad.

He was a great roo and father to many. And at least you have some sons to carry on papas legacy!

Thank you, Sam. You were there when I got him. So many of my friends remember that poor, filthy lice ridden rooster I "renovated". I just want Zane to perk up and take his place as the head of this group of crazy women his daddy left him.

Hmmm, I've seen so many comments on this thread about Hawkeye's condition when you got him. I'm not familiar with that story, and seem to be having a bit of difficulty finding it. If it wouldn't be too painful for you, would you mind terribly to share a bit of how he came to live with you?
