Deworming and de-miting questions

Fenbendazole gets rid of a number of worms, but won't get rid of poultry tapes if your bird has them. Albendazole (Valbazen goat wormer) will. Oral dosage is 1/2 cc for a standard and 1/4 cc for a Bantam.

Are there husbandry practices that help prevent / minimize mite infestations.

I found the first mite in my coop the other day and looked at it thru a kids microscope - they're sure ugly little beasties.

Thank you for that
While Valbazen (albendazole) does get all worms, it cannot be used on all species of mammals and birds like Safeguard (fenbendazole) can. It can cause death in pigeons, doves and crias and aplastic anemia in other animals, which is why they stopped doing research on it, I think.

If you're interested, I can get you more info from Plumb's Veterinary Drug Handbook.

Thanks

I have two versions of plums, and had looked it up versus fenbendezole.
Don't you just love it? It has made me feel so much more comfortable about giving off label meds. Don't know if you know about these, but I have found some very useful info them as well.

Albendazole is perfectly safe for chickens when using the proper dosage like any other wormer. We are dealing with chickens here, right? I've used Benzimidazole and Albendazole off and on for years and the chickens have never had a problem with either.

What is the proper dose in mg/kg?
