What you do should be based on your goals and risk appetite.
My own goal is breakfast eggs with minimal hassle. My risk appetite is low for things that take effort and medium for things that require no effort. Therefore I do not push the hens to lay more than they do on their own. Also, I do not want electricity in the coop due to the risk of fire.
