Dharma's Drama and Ponder's Problem update...

I was just looking at the coop and chicken yard with Dharma in mind.... Sigh. I think I'm going to Lowe's and buy a fortune in that tiny hardwire mesh and staple it up to about ten feet high. I bet that wouldn't work either. Wonder if he'd mind being wrapped in bubble wrap?

And I am NOT getting attached to him. I'm not. NOT. Well, not REALLY.

omg!!! All the chicks are napping, after just cycling into the play pen while i clean the brooder. They play until they start to nap, then i put them back so they don't get cold.

All is well and good, except that i am surprised to find a good number of them can flap up to the six inch high roost i placed, running the length of the brooder. huh? They're not a week old. The last group didn't do anything like this sort of thing.

moving and playing created sleepy chicks. i settled in for a few minutes of quiet. They'd nap for awhile. i hadn't been sitting for 15 minutes when panicked peeping comes from the room. WTH? open the gate, half run to me, half lay where they're still too sleepy to worry about it all. okay who, where? Remembering the last time, under the waterer? no, the food dish? no. Beside the little nest box i have in there? no. What the ???

All this time peeeepppp peeep peeeeepppppp! WTH? Check faces, check feet, someone pecked? peeeeeeppppp!!!

Where is this animal?

Finally i realise that one of the chicks has flown high enough, while SMALL enough, to go over the draft barrier that is 2ft high... i back my shoulders out of the brooder and look. knowing which bird this has to be ppppeeeeeeppp!

finally i see him and he sees me and manages to get turned around in the space between the crate and the wall, and heads toward me. The rest of the dialogue is not for an audience including impressionable children or easily offended adults. i did four years in the Army, let's leave it at that...

DHARMA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

he is so not going to make it to full grown. Through the crate bars, just an inch apart, at two ft high. Can you hobble a chicken? Danged animal, little freak, part monkey.

i swear my hair is grayer...

Sigh

What doesn't kill us (or the chickens) makes us stronger????
I love Dharma. He'd fit in well at my house! I have a 24 week old Bichon rescue puppy that needs Ritalin - they would get along great!

You know, the stinkers are the ones who always manage to survive. Don't know why that is.

I've got a cat that was born in May of '07 to my 4th generation calico. She was the runt, but somehow always the first to do everything. First to open her eyes. To get out of the nest box. To climb over the baby gate that was there to protect her from my dog. First to wander off down the hall and manage to get herself shut in a room she shouldn't have been in.

The house burned down in the night in August. That little stinker was the only one of us to come out of it without even a singed hair. I call her Dini, after Harry Houdini.

Funny, I was whining to my mom about him. She says he reminds her of my brother, always into something. Thinking way back when, yeah, a lot like Scott. And Scott made me crazy.

I hope he is a survivor these are going to be free-ranging.

Wow, glad you all made it out of the house fire. Those are terrifying. The terrible brother Scott is now a fireman. I hear too many stories...

Here's to survival.

I swear my first batch of Rocks were all dim little pebble brains. This batch as a group are much healthier, much busier, more determined to do everything. That Dharma manages to stand out within this group just floors me. Even Starbuck and Runs Like Nutcase are three steps behind him.

Starbuck is still the largest, I think he might be a day plus ahead of the other two groups. Either that or he's going to be a giant Rock.

They're feathering out really fast. OMG those idiotic tail feather bits are so odd in the beginning.

I hope Dharma is smarter and a survivor. Though if he keeps it up he may end up a cup of chicken TEA, too small for soup. mumble mumble grumble...
