Diary and notes of my daily routine.

You gals and guys should see all the pesky earthworms all this rain has brought to the surface!

My peas will not eat earth worms, don't know why cause they love them giant grubs they find in the rotting logs.

Image taken from google but this is how big they are
i need to get out there and take my own photo

This time of year is when I see most of my issues with blackhead, today was no exception.

Young male, August 2014 hatch. Current weight 1690 grams. Depressed, not eating, thin, ruffled feathers, weak, dehydrated, nasty poop.

Brought inside two days ago, gave fluids. Once hydrated a little I started Corid, fenbendazole, metronidazole, Baytril and tubing food.

Do you find it is the wet weather? Does that make it easier for them to get contaminated, or are they more stressed from the weather?

So treatment today:

AM weigh in at 1690 grams
0.85 ml Safeguard (85 mg fenbendazole) orally
0.35 ml Corid mixed 2.65ml water (3ml total) orally
100 mg metronidazole orally
120 ml baby bird food mixed at about 1 part food, two parts water

-Kathy

Edited to fix weight error from 1890 to 1690!

It's probably a combo of them being put on the ground earlier than I wanted, the wet bringing with it the bacteria, coccidia and worms, and the cold, but it's not really that cold here.

You know, I almost think miine would be better off if the ground were frozen and/or covered with snow. (Brrrrrr) It seems like it's the cold wet mud here that is the problem. They are not...

wait for it...

...ducks.
