I think that's one of the coolest candling pics I've ever seen! What day are they on?
MissBroody, your baby is in there doing shadow puppets. I see a bunny there. LOL Cool pics!
cool images!
Wow!!!!!
Thanks a lot for all your comments. They are on day 15. This is one of my home eggs mixed between a batam cochin Roo and a Nero Type cross out of four hen possibility I do not know which laid this. But there does seem to be a lot of space in some. I think they just will be smaller chicks just in big eggs. I have had them at a constant temp of 37.7 c since I put them in my new bator with fan on day 10. But before that time it was probably a little unstable because the thermostats was broke and just a mess really. I could not take my eye off the blasted thing without it going over 40 degrees then some nights it would be around 36-37. So this is where I need some expertise. My little bantam eggs are on the small side and look pretty full I have 4 eggs from posted variety that have very huge air cells of the saddle back variety and these have a small space left at the bottom. Then I have some that look spot on and some that look a little on the small side for dates inside like these pics I added so would it hurt to put the bigger eggs into lock down first and and give the other eggs a chance to get bigger? Or do I just put them all in at the same time. Knowing that it may take a long time for them to hatch. I just don't want to compromise anything. And I will not touch the eggs unless they most defo need help! I am worried about these saddle backs. What complications should I expect. These eggs had detached cells and I managed to get them to reattach by reading all these posts. Pure luck. But I will post pics when night falls. I have three cochin banties in small shells my hen is very small and is just over a year old and her eggs have never got much bigger but what should I expect with 'not a lot of room' day 16 today and they do not have much space left. ThanksBROODY!!!!!That is very interesting indeed!! I can't seem to candle and see anything other than air . I tried with my eggs that my hen hatched out, I think I may not have strong enough light.![]()
Hey everyone. I'm so far behind here I'm not going to try and catch up. Had a bit of a crisis yesterday. We had the 4 young chickens outside in their coop and the wind was so crazy yesterday morning, it blew the coop down. The whole thing collapsed with them insideOne got hurt, but seems to be o.k. now (touch wood), one got killed, the other two were freaked out but unharmed. I'm still upset and in shock, so sorry if I'm not feeling talkative today, I'm still in a bit of a mess. I feel awful about the one that died. We didn't even go clean the mess up yet. I can't look at it without seeing that poor thing
At least it seems it was instant, she didn't suffer...![]()
I actually have 10 eggs in my incubator right now from 2 different people who raise them, one lady is in Massachusetts and they were shipped and the others are from here in Seattle. The shipped ones are blue heads which can throw all three colors an the local ones are blue, green and silver. Almost all Aussies can be traced back to holderreads but most all of the ones in Washington are related so we have to get unrelated eggs from other states. They are a lot like mallards and they require no more special care than them. just making sure there wing is clipped because they are amazing flyers but won't fly away if they have sufficant food water to play in and but can try to fly away if a predator is a threat. If u have the 2nd edition of storeys guide to raising ducks I think he has a section on them and their history. If not I can paste it on here later. But they are very cool duck and very beautiful!

you sound on track, you can adjust as needed on day 7 candle! Doing Great! So my shipped call duck eggs are now on day 2. When they arrived they had wobbly air cells and they were rather big. I was told to keep the humidity at around 45% because of this. The humidity has been, at lowest 40%, and at highest 48%. Does this sound okay? Tomorrow evening (day 3) I will start to turn them and should I candle them on day 7? Thanks!
GOOD MORNING HATCHERS!
I will go back a ZILLION PAGES AND START reading!![]()
