Omgeez. I had 17 eggs make it to lockdown. Today I came home seriously disappointed I had to be gone this afternoon.... 15 chicks and TWO zipping now. All hatched!!! Holy chicks! And all I wanted was 2! I'll post a pic in a bit. I have 16 dark birds and one golden nugget.
O.O Teach me oh great masterHey guys! For my art final, I'm doing a series of drawings of embryonic development on blown out goose eggs. I plan to draw embryos at 0 days, 5 days, 10 days, 15 days, and 20 days. Here's my first one, it's of a 15 day old embryo. I understand that it may not be accurate, so please critique the embryo if you can. I tried to make the fluff look more wet, but it didn't work out. 15 day old embryo with yolk sac drawn onto a blown goose egg.![]()
Argh your making me wanna hatch chicks even more!!!!! LOL

this made me chuckle! ha ha ha I though u were kidding! This little dude was assisted hatch Monday. It had a full yolk sac. The first pic was yesterday evening. The second and third pic is just a few minutes ago. Notice my wife isn't wearing gloves anymore. Lol. She's doing great.
pretty eggs I head Wheaton are a lighter blue sorta green color! now I can see that! so pretty!
Quote: Sally hatches in another incubator. I guess you could call it the hatcherbator.
lol no its call the "shittystyrohatcher" bawahhhahahhaaaaa
Quote: they only grow in there, and I do NOT suggest it, its a pain to turn and move everything around.
I was gifted turkey n duck eggs and they sorta threw me all off, THERE IS 17 of them and they are all viable!
well here it is! that is just weird! I swear it wasn't here when I was typing honest!!I just sold most of my chickens and the coop. Mom and babies are going tomorrow and only the 3 youngsters are staying behind. Our landlord's taking them.
This bit was not easyWhen I saw the coop on the trailer I couldn't help thinking of that day we bought our first hens and had to put them in the bathroom, because the coop was due to be delivered the next day only, but I couldn't wait another week for my chickens. And then the courier phoned to say he's on his way with the coop. It was crazy, but so exiting... looking at the chickens at market and choosing hens to buy and then bringing them home. Getting the coop delivered that afternoon and scrubbing chicken poop off the bathroom floor. DH thought I should've waited, but I just wanted chickens again. It was so nice to have chickens again.![]()

Quote: Okay! I get up in the morning, and put on a coat. Twenty minutes later I go out with vegetables, and sweat in a pair of shorts.
I turned off the heat lamp (finally!!) for the 7 -week-olds last night, and candled the eggs. I checked a BCM, and could only kinda trace the air cell. I candled an EE, and was able to see the veining. The temp is still going between 100-102.
Aren't Marans hard to hatch? I thought you guys (in PA Unite) were talking about it a while back.
I am skipping the stuff from the last few days I didn't read. Anything I should know?
I have done 5 dozen at dif times and had excellent hatches. I think they believe, as most do, add water to the wells and let them do their thing. only a few understand humidity and how to use it. I tried explaining numerous times if you don't remember, so I just respond to HELP Pm from them.
Quote: DONT do it!
Quote: Ditto that, uggg sometimes it looses stuff when I do long quotes!
Sounds AWESOME Cody! I am so glad you figured out ahead of time what you need to do! awesome!! I cant wait for all your hatches!I haven't been on here in a few days, and just wanted to update all of you that were giving me advice on my first time hatchings eggs. Just to catch everyone up I'm hatching duck, turkey, chicken, and guinea eggs together using the dry hatch method. I am on day six right now with the duck, turkey, and guinea eggs and will be adding the chicken eggs tomorrow. So far everything seems to be going great, all eggs that I've candled so far seem to be showing progress, except for the guinea eggs which are to thick shelled to see much yet. The duck eggs are doing awesome, I can see really good veining in all eggs so far. The turkey eggs are too speckled and dark to see any veins but the air cells are right on track. My broody hen is also still sitting on the eggs I gave her. Hopefully everything keeps going good. I'm trying to not get my hopes up considering I still have three weeks to go. I originally only expected a couple eggs out of each breed to hatch at best, since this is my first time incubating eggs and I'm using shipped eggs, but now after all the progress the eggs are showing I'm beginning to hope for an even higher hatch rate. Thank you to everyone who gave me advice on getting started!
If this one doesn't get better by the end of the day may have to cull it. Just a big ball of bloody mess!
