VENTILATION (OXYGEN)
Ventilation is VERY important during the incubation process.
While the embryo is developing, oxygen enters the egg through the shell and carbon dioxide escapes. Oxygen requirements will increases during development and during hatching. Unobstructed ventilation holes, both above and below the eggs, are essential for proper air exchange. HOWEVER New Studies (Show Dr.Bramwell Discussion) have found that a slight decrease in oxygen the first 10 days (ONLY the first 10) creates a natural higher CO2 level which will naturally build in the incubator and add a little stress to young embryos which will force the embryo to survive and grow stronger, hatch earlier, hatch larger, grow stronger, grow faster and yeild more muscle mass at 6 weeks of age. PUT THE VENT PLUGS IN FOR THE FIRST 10 DAYS ONLY and then REMOVE ALL VENT PLUGS for the rest of the hatch! NOTE: When Lockdown occurs, vent openings are frequently restricted in an attempt to boost incubator humidity. Instead of helping the chick hatch, the chick is suffocated from lack of oxygen. Never decrease ventilation openings at hatching in an attempt to increase humidity. Increase humidity by other methods. If any vent adjustments are made, they should be opened more. Try adding a dampened sponge or towel to help boost humidity during lockdown.
Quote: my questions too, because I cant keep track of everyone LOL
never say never, what breeds and how old where they, how big were air cells to start? got pics?I'm not feeling good about these shipped eggs!! It's only been 5 days but I candled 2 eggs and see nothing going on!! All I see is the air cells moving around.
If I wasted $45 I will NEVER buy shipped eggs again.![]()
Good friggen thing I passed out then! my word woman, BRB do you know what that means???My chick made it out finally at 4:30 a.m. She looks great, but I'm confused on the parentage. I thought I put a SLW egg in, but baby came out with feathered legs. So...must be the Buff or Light Brahma. This keeps happening to me, LOL! I need to dye my SLW's vent I guess, cause I obviously have no clue which egg she lays!I'll post pics this afternoon! Today's my day to clean the church, and after that I go pick up my other 3 Call Ducklings!!!! YAY!
Talk to you all later, and thanks for the help with my chick.
LMAO!![]()
Wonder when I get my eggs
Quote: This may sound stupid, but it has some info if you learn to recognize it.....
Do they eggs have similarity? I can tell what egg comes from almost all my hens and no two eggs are exactly alike in shape and color. If these eggs are fairly identical I would bet he collected from the same 2 or three hens for a longer time than 2-3 days. You can check for fertility if you need to pull any after day 7, I am worried because you def should see something. Start compiling a letter to the seller asking for a refund not replacements. and have it ready. Sometimes the chalza those strings that hold the eggs do break during shipping, fertility can be checked at eggtopsy. If they are rolling and bubbly he either packaged wrong or sent too old eggs or/and USPS issues.
How where they packaged again?

Just like that, he is gone. I last seen movement 6:20 am, went to do the chickens and came back and saw a little yellow red mark on the pure white at the bottom undersideish of the egg, I couldn't get him to move so I know he tried to pip and drowned. When I picked it up it was stiff and I pushed on the area and it was indeed his beak. I tried to get his beak out but I knew he was already gone. I wont tell the kid unless he asks. I had a feeling he wouldn't be able to turn because without the shell it was a tad flat . : (
He was nice and big and nice white under his chin too : ( What I don't get is there wasn't too much fluid, yolk wasn't all absorbed he just couldn't get those lungs to air. I am not sure I could have done anything for him but see what he does. It was exciting waiting and wishing for the little thing for sure. : ( I was up three times just to check on him last night. I know I am nuts. I felt bad too, because I have 3 turkey hatching and those buttons in there and they are being ignored. When they should be the exciting chicks! At least they are now! they have all my attention.
RIP Humpty, look how white that outer membrane remained though. I can say, I have no doubt if this little guy could have turned he would have lived.
