Let her sit on fake or infertile eggs for at least 2 weeks, ideally more, before swapping the eggs for chicks. If you give her chicks too soon she will most likely reject them. Broodies have a rough idea how long they should sit before expecting their eggs to hatch. When the time comes to swap her eggs for chicks wait until it's dark and the hen is sleeping. Quietly slip the chicks under her and remove the eggs at the same time. When it gets light in the morning keep an eye on her and stand by to rescue the chicks if she doesn't accept them, but she most likely will.Second question. If I give my newer broody chicks, will she stop being broody? It has only been 3 days.
