Diary & Notes ~ Air Cell Detatched SHIPPED Chicken Eggs for incubation and hatching

Ok, I think this thread started out as a discussion on detached air cells on shipped eggs....it has been hard to tell sometimes! ;) Anyway, I had a dozen buff Orpington shipped to me, ALL of them had mobile air cells. I let them sit for 48 hrs, then went ahead and set them, nothing lost, right? So, they were set Saturday night. I'll try to keep my progress updated. It has been hard for me to determine the success rate vs failures in the posts here. What have y'all's experience been (in a nutshell, so to speak).

I'm eager to know this answer as well.

Clears - 3, 4, 6,
9, 10, and 11 are questionable, 9 looks a lot like a blood ring
Blood ring - 14, you can leave this one to see if anything changes, if it's indeed a blood ring, it will become more and more evident as time passes.

Confirmed embryo on day 3 - 15?, 16, 17

Can't see inside 18 (green egg)
And I think I see veining on 20

I would leave all of them in the incubator to help keep the temperatures stable, unless they stink or start to ooze.

I pretty much agree. 1 and 2 certainly have babies. In fact Im gonna try to upload a video in a bit

Hi CraftyChicky!!

how far had the eggs traveled? how were they packaged? double boxed, bubble wrap? how large were the air cells when you got them? and mobile being rolling end to end or displaced wiggly a tad with saddle shapes?

What incubator are you using? fan or no fan? Thermos are calibrated and spot on? and hygros as well? your using humidity as a tool not as a set number? are you weighing or keeping a close eye on air cells? Turner or no turner?

Praying for your guys to make it through!

I know that @PeakyBeaky has 12 chicks ready to ship..... not sure about Canada though.... I don't really have either right now......
Danke my friend!

Each batch is different. There are countless variables that will affect the hatch rate. I've had anywhere from 0% to 80% with shipped eggs.
I agree

I also agree.

I can't find anything to support what I think I saw.

Perhaps it was the first fertile egg from my black pair.

I hope so coch, I want to see these babies!!! <tapping foot!>

400

These three have pipped! And one of them is the one I candled so I'm so happy I didn't screw things up! I was sleeping and I heard a peep and thought no I'm not going to check it's probably my imagination. Then I heard another and decided to at least check humidity and three of them are going! Yay! Also glad I checked I'm using a straw and baby medicine thing to get water in there the humidity was down to 52%

Shoot! Yay for pips.

I candled last night, I know I said I wouldn't, but anyways I was AMAZED that it seems like all the eggs from the second group have babies in them. So numbers 16-23 have very clear veins. #15 and 24 are maybes. And then we know that 1 and 2 have babies in them. Note I will day the first group was poorly packed and the box was beat up(the 4 ducks came separate) and the second group was better packed and the box was prestine.

I am so totally STUMPED!

And from which group!

I received a pack of CHICKEN BONES Candy in the mail from KY. A very cool gift and great gift for me! I love them and WANT TO KNOW who sent them to me!!!!!
