Well, I didn't HAVE to, but my chicken flock is probably going to be bigger than planned and ducks stress out my spouse. He loves the chickens, so I'm okay with not having ducks (right now.)
Hey, this means I just have to HATCH them myself!

We have polar opposite husbands. Mine dislikes the chickens but loves the ducks

Harmonys silky has a tad bigger hole but still resting! I see some pips in the CCL! none in the brahma yet! I am keeping an eye on her silky as I had it out to take that video, I dont think its stuck but it could be, I hear her chirping pretty good now so she should be out by lunch, if not I have to check on her. I guess I should waited to use one of my eggs to show you that video

but I didnt have any other internals.

Cool! Hopefully it'll continue to make progress.

Last week I forgot to raise the humidity. I had the eggs positioned for hatching, but I forgot to fill the water trays. Next thing I knew I had one chick out and 3 more externally pipped at a humidity of 20%. Perhaps it was just luck, but none were shrink wrapped.

My eggs are coming my eggs are coming!!

Guess who is getting some possible show quaility silkie duck eggies, not that I will show them but still, I love BYC friends!!
And HRIR I am so excited about getting more of my pretty reds back in the layer pen! I miss the color and sweetness of a RIR! ohand possibly a few turkey eggs to hatch for a friend!!!

Ugh, what a trying 24 hours. I canceled my duck/goose order that was supposed to be coming in May. This morning I had to euthanize my favorite rooster (favorite chicken) due to complications from surgery.
I never realized how much I love these chooks.
He was my only Australorp mix and had the softest feathers of any of my chickens (not including the silkies, they are still just fuzz balls.)
I wish I had gotten more pictures of him, but the camera just couldn't capture the beautiful red and silver in his hackles or the blue/green sheen of his body.
I already miss you, Cheeky.

I'm so sorry.

I lost my oldest boy over the weekend. He was a 7 year old black LF cochin rooster. I'm not sure what happened. He was active and happy until the day he died. RIP Tom.

I threw a few of his eggs in the incubator last week and they're all developing. Hopefully they'll hatch.

I'm sorry to hear about your rooster. Cheeky was a black chicken too. I hope you get some of his babies.

Scooter: Re: your temp fluctuations in your incubator. I had similar issues in mine, which is a home made with computer fan, so it's a bit different, but I can tell you what I did. My heat spike was in the front and left side where the heat was generated by the bulbs and pushed out into the "egg box", with low temp at the back right, because that was at the end of the "circulation circle" and furthest away from the heat source. So, I put a strip of tin foil between the bulbs and the front middle of the egg box, then continued to experiment with adding foil, adding a shield to help direct the air flow, and finally poking a few holes in the foil to direct more warm air towards the right. I was able to get it to within 1.5 degrees. Finally, I raised the egg cartons up in the back, so the eggs could take advantage of the increased heat towards the top of the incubator. Then, just for good measure, when I turned the eggs, I switched the carton positions front to back and left to right so they rotated through all positions in the incubator. I don't know what your heat source is like, but perhaps you can use some of this information to help you with your problem. Good luck. As long as you can keep your eggs in a therapeutic range, and if you rotate them throughout the incubator, you should be ok. After doing the 32 degree test on my thermometers, I then tested them at 100 degrees, and found that even if they match at 32 degrees, they don't always match at 100 degrees, so it's a good idea to test at both temps. Makes this part of incubating extra frustrating!!
