HI all!!! Day 14 of hatching shipped Silkie eggs. PA to CA! The 9 eggs left out of the original 14 are doing great! 5 of the nine have large to very large saddle air cells.

Finally calibrated my hygrometer and found that it was running 5% high. Should be ok...I was keeping it between 40 and 50 anyway. I'm so excited and nervous for hatch day. Btw I know I need a brooder all set up (done that before) but what else do I need to get together for during and right after hatch? Including things I may need for sickly chicks or if I have to assist? Thanks for any info and good luck to all!!

My Delawares arrived last night. Resting for a day. I will candle and report on them here.

I am so against buying eggs on ebay but I cant help snapping up the bargains and test hatching them to get a better understanding. I have orps coming next week.

I also have 12 Cochins eggs I am picking up from a BYC meet up in San DIego County.

I am going to have fun trying to off load these guys.

hey, sally, just for future reference, it says in your notes, quote:

"Either way, leave them in the egg carton for all 21 days of the hatch. Stop turning early at Day 16 not 18. "

but you said you don't stop turning until day 18? ah well, i stopped at day 16.

anyways, i've got 31 eggs in the bator. it is day 20. i've got 2 pips. i couldn't candle everything, some are too dark. 6 of the candle-friendly have busted air cells. neither of those are the pippers. i'm estimating 21 are fully developed. gosh i'll be happy if i just get more than one chick. although if i don't get 11 chicks i will never EVER ship eggs again. because for the money i spent on eggs i could have gotten that many chicks.

sweatin'...
oh NO! thats wrong! where is that mistake! in the shipped eggs section>>> ??? CRUDBUCKETS MEALworms!
