Diary & Notes ~ Air Cell Detatched SHIPPED Chicken Eggs for incubation and hatching

I think you should candle again on Sunday to make sure. Something doesn't sound quite right here...

So just to quickly update..... I'm approaching lockdown Sunday nite, but have only 1 egg that looks like a regular 15-16day egg should look like - dark shadows that take up almost the entire egg, good & clearly visible air sac, blood vessels too, and I've even see it's eyeball!!

But the concern is the other 14.... they look roughly like this egg does at approx Day 8-10. And to give due credit, it's not my pic.... it's from this link that Sally's posted in her webpage- http://chat.allotment.org.uk/index.php?topic=73884.0





What to do? Lock down for this one? Crack open one of the other 14 to investigate? Or just hope for the best with the remaining knowing that they'll come late, or mal-formed?

As long as you see veining I would leave them. Are you moving them around in the bator every time you turn?

SERAMA

7 Babies total, 4 yellow 3 black! we lost 1 upsidedown and 2 died in shell before I realised the shell was extremely thick and they couldnt externally pip.
So I assisted all 7 had a long day yesterday and last night, But what a routy bunch of chicks this morning!! YAY this is the best shot for now, till the go brooder happy!
GO HARMONY GO!!! YAYAYYA she didnt even get to SEE THEM YET! lol

Post a pic of them later next to something so I can see exactly how small they are?

LOCK THEM DOWN follow the timeline! WHY? Because for some reason some eggs candle different! Plus thats 3 full days from now..... can you get a pic of the size of cells better? ..... you dont have cold and hot spots do you?

I have actually KILLED chicks that I thought looked like blobs and no veining and smaller! Most of these chicks are VERY LIGHT in color, I honestly think candling really light colored chicks SHOWS DIFFERENT!! I threw two of my cochin eggs in the bator, and I thought they were blobs, GOOD THING I EGGTOPSIED because I would have killed 2 instead of 1... one goes in lockdown tonight or tomorrow!! SO DONT MAKE my mistakes assuming they arent growing right, the time frame is the same for everyone in the bator as long as your set up and running correctly. AND I am pretty sure you crossed your t's and dotted i's!! I will candle this cochin and ask DH to video it tonight to show you what I mean about candling!

Day 20 and I am on pins and needles. Oh why can't one of the little ones cheep while I am within earshot? Or something??? I keep worrying that I missed something and none are going to hatch... I am probably going to be manic about checking for pips, except for the few hours of date night. We get one day a month that works for us to go out (only day DH gets out of work early and childcare is available). It will probably be a good distraction for now but I hope I get some pips today...

I LIED !! Sally SUNSHINE messed up ~ 5 YELLOW Serama and 2 BLACK Serama CHICKS ~
HOWEVER one of the yellows, unbeknownst to me "at this point" IS A FRIZZLED BANTAM I think???? It was the only one in a tan shell

Ask for a steroid shot with your antibiotics. I swear they are better than anything.

Good job on the serama. I have read that they are pretty difficult.

No worries, I am something of a Nervous Nelly anyway, at least on things like this. Soon as I get DS down for a nap I am checking them again. He likes opening things too much to take him with me. His dentist appointment yesterday was awesome, there wasn't an off limits cabinet in the room and he amused himself for quite a while by opening them and laughing.
